Vilebloods

The Vilebloods are a disparate group of corrupted humanoids who were cursed by the Red Queen following the use of her sacred blood in a ritual meant to empower themselves. Vilebloods are often easy to recognize, as they have changed to become more monstrous and easily distiguishable from most humanoids.

Vileblood Curse

Vilebloods are monstrous humanoids that have transformed or been born with due to their exposure to the Vileblood Curse. Creatures affected by this curse become mutated by its power. The exact appearance of a vileblood is not possible to describe, because they varry so greatly. Many take on limbs or appendages that are unnatural or useless. Many have been described with masses of horns that grow all along their bodies, curving and piercing their own skin if they are not taken care of. Others have wings like those of bats or birds too small to hold them aloft. Others yet have additional limbs, patches of scaled or furred skin, claws or beast-like features. The one thing that seems to be consistent among all Vilebloods is their eyes and teeth, and they are the first signs of contracting the curse. The eyes of a vileblood are larger than normal and reminecent of a beast's, they also have at least one smaller third eye, and their teeth have changed to become a mouth full of fangs.

Structure

"The structure of the Vilebloods is disorderly and without focus. They are foul bandits, marauders, or cultists that live in the uncivilized places of Trandrafia. Each band of these vile creatures may have a leader temporarily, but given time they are likely to turn on them when they can no longer intimidate them into following."
- Bishop Nikolina Paraschiv, Bloodshed and Betrayal: Understanding the Menace of the Vilebloods and the Threat They Pose

The Vilebloods are often seen in groups of a dozen to several dozen (though not often the latter). They are led by members of those groups who lead them on raids and hunts on villages and small towns or farms. There seems to be no connected goals among the groups outside of their shared hunger for blood and desire to spread their curse on to others.

Public Agenda

The Vilebloods are known only to hold a few shared goals:
  1. Dismantling of the Claret Covenant and death of the Red Queen.
  2. Death of the nobility.
  3. The spread of their foul curse.

"While the goal of the death of the Red Queen is laughable at best, the fact that it is something they desire holds a threat toward all of Trandrafia. The Red Queen and Trandrafia are one, her lands and her people. While they certainly lack the ability to act against the Red Queen directly, they are destructive creatures who can and will act against both Her people and Her lands."

History

The Vilebloods have not been seen as a unified force in over half a century. At that time they were led by the noble family of Ticalos and their surrounding court, who had worked with a traitor to the Covenant to procure sacred blood from the Blood Vault in their region. After their heresy against the church, the house of Ticalos and the people of their lands began to transform into hideous, malformed humanoids who thirsted for the blood of those yet to be changed. The actions the new Vilebloods wrought at this time brought enough attention to illicit an immediate response from the Claret Covenant, and in less than a year's time the noble seat of the Ticalos family was abandoned by its noble rulers as it was razed by the knights of the Covenant. It was another three decades before the leadership of the Vilebloods were finally uncovered and killed, the last surviving member being the Count Marian Petrovich Ticalos who had taken the moniker alongside his wife of "Trueblood" Luminary.
Since that time, the Vilebloods have been actively hunted. Laws have been put in place require the reporting of possible Vileblood sightings, with those who refuse to being suspected of treason against the Queen, her Covenant, and the noble families of the region. Ticalos Castle was abandoned following the deaths of three noble families who attempted to take it for themselves. It is located in the east, within the Duchy of Draebia, and is It is considered cursed.
