Mending Futures Shelter
Originally known only as the Mending Futures Orphanage, it was formed by Lord Galeas Bristroth to house the many orphans who lost families and guardians during the Bloodless Apostasy. It was funded almost entirely by Galeas Dragavei and was dedicated to giving a better future to those harmed by the events of the past. The orphanage used its funding to teach orphans trades and skills that would allow them to make a better life for themselves once they left.
Over the decades, the Mending Futures Orphanage expanded and refocused its agenda, going from just focusing on those harmed by the violence of the land to also looking after those also harmed by diseases or sickness. As House Dragavei became more interested in the applications of alchemy and medicine and the orphanage expanded into a full hospital and research organization dedicated to new medicines and the understanding of diseases, so too did the trades taught by the orphanage.
The orphanage is still a part of the organization, but has focused greatly on teaching skills in medicine, alchemy, and tinkering rather than more general labor jobs. However, those disinterested or not inclined to become those the orphanage pushes for are given other training and sent to work mines or factories within Dragesti where parts have begun being made for the Count's manikins. Some who learn of this have accused the Count and his house of abusing the residents in their shelter by restricting the trades taught for their own personal gain, but most complaints abate quickly.
Alterations
At first, the orphanage was housed on the estate of Lord Dragavei, within Dragavei Castle, but was relocated when a more suitable building was finished in the nearby town. Beginning as a single-story building primarily made of dormitories for its inhabitants, with House Dragavei's shift toward the medicinal and alchemical studies, the building has had several additions integrated into the original purpose. The orphanage is now part of a campus of buildings, some connected directly or just by walkways to the largest building on the campus now, the Mending Futures Sanatorium and Research.
