Tiefling

Tieflings are almost unheard of in the modern world. If they exist, they do so in hiding. When tieflings are born, they are mostly normal; after a few years, they begin to grow small keratin patches around their heads, where their horns will soon grow. To the people of the town, this is known as "keratinosis" and is considered almost entirely fatal. A group known as the Mourners come to inspect the child and administer treatments, but even so the child is often found dead within another year. Any tieflings that currently exist are either born away from civilization or come from other planes. If their identities are ever revealed, they are often accosted by jealousy, grief, and pleads for knowledge or assistance by would-be or had-been parents, as well as naturalists.
