Pheonix Outpost, a Town Liberated

Finick Mc' Lazlote was the spoiled son of a rich lord. One day, after his father refused his demand of an early inheritance and plot of land, he decided he had had enough, and set out and found his own town.   He convinced many sons and daughters of other lords to take part in the venture. Many of them were not first born and therefore not entitled to receive their parents' estates. They saw this as a way to find their own land to rule. All that was left was to ensure they had citizens to rule over. Finick bedazzled the common folk of adventure and the unknown, of new beginnings, of a way to step out from under the foot of unjust rulers. Much could be said against the lord's son, but none could deny that he was gifted with a silver tongue. Many of the people saw this as an opportunity to start a new life for themselves, and formed an enormous caravan, all following one Finick Mc' Lazlote to the uncertain horizon.   It quickly became apparent that the new citizens had stepped out from under the foot of their old rulers, only to step under the foot of new ones that were just as, if not more, unjust. When a fine plot of land was found just outside of a useful forest, and near a clear stream, they were quickly put to work by the lords' sons and daughters, who did not bother to toil in what they deemed "unfit work for men and women of their caliber". Mc' Lazlote earned the nickname "Mc Lazy Lout" during the construction.   Through much grumblings and grudges, the town was finally complete, with the well built homes of the new lords and ladies in the center of town contrasting the slapped together shacks of the common folk. All of the provisions and wealth was kept inside the center, and the hope that the people had had of building a new life was quickly crumbling before their eyes. The final dashing of that hope was the party the lords and ladies were having to themselves over the newly founded "Finick Outpost". A bonfire several stories high blazed, illuminating the drunken celebration. The wind started to blow, egging on the blaze to consume more than just the wood it was given. It soon caught the grass, aided by spilled alcohol, and began devouring the well built homes. The jovial shouts quickly turned to cries of terror as the noble folk rushed to the outskirts of the town, replaced by the common folk rushing in with buckets of water from the stream, desperately trying to save their hard work.   By morning, much of the town was lost to the flames. Finick and his associates were quick to blame the townsfolk for not being able to save their homes, and ordered them back to work at once to rebuild. The townsfolk in turn, grabbed axes and pitchforks and proceeded to run the noble folk out of town. The town was rebuilt and the name "Finick Outpost" was quickly discarded, replaced by "Phoenix Outpost." For, like the phoenix rising anew from the ashes, so had the people from the cinders of their town.
