Taurë Amil, The Elven Woodlands
Homeland of the elves, these woodlands are sprawling, dense, and dangerous to the uninitiated. Elves born within their borders are used to navigating the evergreens from a very young age, but outsiders usually have trouble keeping on track, not to mention the inherent magical protection the elves have amplified throughout the centuries.
Forceful expulsion: The targets of the teleport suffer 3d10 force damage, and are forcefully transported to the outskirts of the forest, 1d4 x 10 kms away from the edge.
Arcane backlash: The targets of the teleport suffer 3d10 force damage, and the teleport fails.
Expulsion: The targets of the teleport are forcefully transported to the outskirts of the forest, 1d4 x 10 kms away from the edge.
Impregnable and Dangerous
Powerful innate nature magics exists all throughout the woods. The original portals to the feywild opened here, millennia ago, and left aftereffects visible to this day.No getting in, no getting out
Teleportation and other arcane means of fast transportation are dangerous to attempt within the woodlands. Unless one has a permanent teleportation sigil, such magics can easily go awry, with grave consequences to those who try. Whoever attempts to cast an arcane spell that causes instantaneous movement further than 500ft, while inside or targeting somewhere inside the forest, they must roll on the following table:d100 | Result |
---|---|
1-29 | Forceful expulsion |
30-59 | Arcane backlash |
60-99 | Expulsion |
100 | Teleportation succeeds |
Hard to navigate
The dense forest makes it hard to figure out locations and distances. When attempting to trace a path to a destination, non-natives take a -5 penalty to Survival checks. Some paths exist, and following those imposes no penalty, although they may be hard to find in the first place.Geography
The Elven Woodlands are an evergreen forest that spans most of the eastern coast of Valanor. It stretches all the way from the dwindling mountains of the Spine to the ocean to the south.
The terrain is largely flat, apart from the northern areas where some hills and cliffs exist. The Swan River passes through the western side of the forest, used as the main means of fast north-south transportation.
There is a natural bay in the eastern coast, protected by an island not too far from the coast, making it an excellent area for a naval outpost.
Fauna & Flora
The forest consists mostly of pine trees and other evergreens, with plenty of other ground-level flora.
Farming is possible, although limited and strictly controlled since taking down trees is somewhat frowned upon. However, there are many fruits, mostly berries, that grow natively and that some of the more nomadic elves prefer to eat.
In the northern outskirts, close to the Spine, crag cats and mountain goats are common sights. Further south, deer and elks make up most of the larger fauna of the woodlands, with the occasional owlbear.
