Cormen Silt

Background

Born in the outskirts of Bluind to farmer parents, news of a holy birth swept the city of Bluind. Clerics, academics and guild masters of all sorts went to the slums in hopes of taking in him as messiah, study subject or protégé. However, as soon as they arrived to the farm, they found the parents unconscious, and the child gone. A member of the Thieves Guild had come to their farm, knocked them out and absconded with the baby, taking it to the Guild’s base of operation, in hopes of ransoming the child.   This same thief was brutally punished for his rashness and endangerment of the Guild, stripped not only of all his possessions, but his memories and personality as well by use of a magical artefact used for the most serious sentences. What remained was a husk in which new thoughts were planted. The thief was made to believe he was the child’s father, and that his duty would be to take care of it in isolation.   He was 12 when he was first introduced to the children of the “orphanage”. Antisocial, incapable of eye contact and terrified of any strangers, his appearance brought attention he could not bear. He collapsed on the floor, panicked and sobbing, and carried to his and his father’s room. It wouldn’t be for another 2 months that he’d be seen by the children again.   Two months passed, and one day the door to his room opened, and in came one the kids from the orphanage. This was a part of the leader’s new plan to force him to get used to other people. Weeping turned to embarrassment, embarrassment turned into awkward gazes, then a few mutterings, and finally a word or two. Progress had been made at a slow pace, but this pace was thoroughly kept every day. One of the children introduced to him was Salv'allay.   Even still, large crowds seemed to be an insurmountable obstacle. He’d freeze up at the numerous questions about his appearance, his place of birth, about his father and mother. Mind you, the children were never very good at giving him space. As such, he kept to himself, in his room, and the visitors to his room became less and less frequent. After a few months, only a few visits happened, but while he did feel saddened, this gave him ample time to focus in on himself and who he was. Though he tried, his father seemed to know as little as he did. The only solution was to find out himself.   Ever since he was young he had felt a desire to help others, to steer the world towards divine justice and light, but all of these concepts remained undefined to him. His life of isolation had forced him to read a lot, but everything he read seemed to clash with the life he knew and the calling he felt. Most of all, he was confused and lost. He tried talking to his “father”, but that didn’t yield anything worthwhile.   The children somewhat helped, but it was Salvallay that suggested he first learn how to be around and talk to people, then to become skilled and experienced (thievery was his first example), and only after that he could try to fulfil his divine dreams, since he’d probably have divine help by then ("If no god wants to help you, I’m sure C'ar'los wouldn’t mind"). Salvallay would also help him for as long as he needed it.   Resolute and ready, Cormen followed Salvallay’s half decent advice, and his supernatural talents shone bright: he was a once in a lifetime prodigy, and the praise and reassurance of his path from his teachers and colleagues (all of whom he still had trouble talking to for extended periods of time) only strengthened his resolve. Though the path he chose was strange and uncertain for him, his skills had to mean something, and so he trained obsessively in all areas.   He couldn’t, however, bring himself to kill, and even stealing is difficult without a lot of prior planning and self-assurance of the target’s need for punishment. He will at most knock people out, but his abilities and practice make that a rare necessity (extremely quick, agile and precise in all he does. All he does seems to happen by divine providence.)   The day Salvallay left without so much as a goodbye, Cormen assumed it was part of Salvallay’s role in his life, deducing that had been an example of the "divine help" Salvallay told him about. As such, he believed it time to pursue his true calling. However, due to his own fear and insecurity, and Sumi taking Salvallay’s "place" in his life, he convinced himself he wasn’t yet ready, and focused even more on his role in the Guild, joining the newly-founded speedrunners.

Personality

Very shy, emotionally cold, pragmatic, even with friends (to a lesser extent).   Pretty OCD in everything he considers related to his purpose in life, with some strange habits and mannerisms. Obsessed with perfection.   Extremely rare for him to talk to more than one person at a time - will ask aside to talk to them. Very rarely looks people in the eye (not that they can see it because of the veil).   Is polite but sometimes forceful in having people listen to him. Extremely knowledgeable as well – read, but will rarely give his own opinion, instead referring to the opinion of others.   Doesn’t enjoy positions of power or being a leader, preferring to have a part he can play alone. Tends to assume that people have roles to play in his life, which stresses him out considerably. Feels ashamed to think this, because his role is meant to one of protector and guide.   Tends to overthink things a lot.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lithe build, very well toned body, with legs on the heavier side.   Light stubble that’s very well groomed, also light-black / grey.   Godly beauty. His skin also emits a light radiance that’s thankfully hidden by his armor   His clothing consists of simple leather studded armor, but its in the most pristine conditions possible (looks brand new). In fact, every month he throws the old one away and purchases a new one for the Guild’s armorer. Because of this, his old armors end up being resold in Bluind at a discount, so many adventurers have their armor thanks to him.

History

Good friend of Salvallay, since he spent quite a bit of time with Cormen, both practicing, playing and working with him. Salvallay wasn’t his only friend, however; just the one that focused the most on helping him, even if in strange ways that came from his self-assuredness that everything would go fine.   Was very sad to see him leave but assumed it was because he "didn’t need his help anymore". Still wants to see him (and other people that he hasn’t seen for some time) again, but is reluctant to admit it.   If he does see Salvallay again, he’ll probably feel a mixture of happiness and self-contempt, complemented with anger for Salvallay’s departure not having been a symbol but Salvallay just being a cunt.
