The Hidden Bastion of Calagon

Briefing

The task given unto The Vigil is to safeguard the realms against the threat of eldritch forces while keeping them unknown to the rest of the common populace. This way keeping panic/distress and the chance of cults populating the realms low at the cost of having the weight of this burden on the shoulders of a few.

The First

In the ancient days before the Age of Unification, The First King Avellonis entrusted a group of likeminded warriors to hold a solemn vow to uphold peace within the realms no matter what threat - Including the ruler themself be they corrupt. The First Highlord was childhood friend and True Blade Chieftain Rex Artorius who had an undettered trust in Avellonis' plans. Together along with the building of Greyton (Now known as Oldtown) between the former sites of Oakseer and True Blade settlements they constructed a citadel of stone within the mountains dubbed "Fort Vigilance" where the True Blade tribe used to call home. Years passed and the Age of Reunifaction had been officially declared while Rex had be left in command of The Vigil, He went out in search of companions forming The First - A group of leaders that he could confide in forming "The First".

The Desolation

The Age of Divide came as a cataclysmic setback for The Vigil - Wars on all fronts as they chose to stay independent, Confiding in the solemn vow they took given by King Avellonis to deal with threats no matter the nation, This included the Kingdom of Rainegate which had so far destroyed more of their land in defence of itself. This unfortunately led to the discovery and destruction of Fort Vigilance and it's inhabitants, Leaving it forgotten and in ruins for a thousand years. The remaining members of The Vigil spread out across the lands seeking solitude and thus the order was dissolved, Some of whom sought to rebuild and founded honourable successors such as "The Bastion" and "The Seekers".

The Pact of Brotherhood

In the days of yore, when shadows danced long upon the land and the Vigilants stood united, we swore an oath, bound in solemnity, that our own blades would never be raised against our brethren, lest we invoke the sacred Pact of Sacrifice.

The Pact of Duty

Where the steps we take may lead us to embrace deeds that others would deem dark. It is within the folds of these somber duties that we find our purpose, for the safeguarding of our cherished reality demands sacrifices, even those steeped in shadows

The Pact of Sacrifice

When the clarion call resounds, we shall not waver. Even as the light dwindles, we shall stand resolute, prepared to lay down our lives, from the first light of dawn till the final embers of twilight.

The Pact of Wisdom

With the wisdom bequeathed unto us by our forebears, we guard closely the circle of trust, for in the pursuit of knowledge, there lies a perilous edge. Only those who heed the sacred Pacts shall be privy to this trove, for the path of forbidden knowledge is perilous and may lead the uninitiated to the brink of madness.

The Pact of Truth

Truths we bear, hidden in the shroud of cosmic mysteries. In the vast expanse, terrors yet lurk, but let these truths be held close, revealed not to the public eye. We, the keepers of truth, stand as a bulwark, shielding the realm from the harrowing revelations that lie beyond.

The Pact of Vigilance

We must find our strength and guidance. In moments of doubt and need, we turn our eyes to each other, seeking solace and assurance in the will and fortitude of our vigilants that we may overcome our tasks.

Structure

Highlord – Highest ranking member of The Vigil

Sentinels – High members working independently from the chain of command only answering to the Highlord, Assigned to one of the Corps.

Commanders – Above the Vigilants they stand as the true standard of warrior that is to be expected from The Vigil.

Knights – Those that have sworn an oath to the pacts and are still to prove their loyalty.

Neophytes – Aspiring soldiers in training that have not yet sworn their pact-oath

Long ago the group now known as "The Vigil" was given many resources such as Silver, Gold, Equipment, Weapons and Transport by the Crown of Avellonis, To seek out any threat to the Kingdom of Rainegate.
