Eye of Velorum

In the city of Rainegate, within the walls of The Citadel lies a statue of the blind seer that watches over the hall of prayer. Though it was mostly made of intricately carved marble it's eyes stood out as they held unique artifacts: An emerald green gem that sat in it's right socket glistening as the rays of light shone down from the nearby stained glass, and an exotic dark stone of unknown materials sitting in it's left socket.   This left eye was known as the Eye of Velorum a relic that the velorumites had arrived with when they first set foot on the coast of Rainegate, Known to be their most precious possession - Heavily guarded within the confines of their citadel.

Origins

The stories passed down from the leaders of the order say that the strange artifact had come into the possession of their parent tribe shortly after they had moved to their new homes in the outskirts of the Karcosan continent - Simply handed over by a tall hooded figure that had emerged from the brush of the untamed jungles as well as the words "Velorum guide your path" which since then has long been an axiom the order holds to the highest degree.   Though the stranger is still unknown to this day, it was said that his gift gave the tribe a chance to live in relative peace on the continent as wild and exotic creatures were seen to avoid the perimeters of their settlement as long as the eye was in vicinity. The dark surface of the stone seeming to move around when nobody was looking, Searching for something, It lay on a stone pedestal in the village centre.

Expeditions

  Expeditions from the tribe's settlement would be sent further inland with the assistance of the eye to find out more about this strange figure that had given them such a powerful boon, Unfortunately these expeditions wouldn't last long as the need for the eye to be within the village's vicinity left it vulnerable to attacks from the aggressive fauna - This left the tribe with no other choice than to expand on their single settlement and stay within it's boundaries erecting walls and other such defences not only to prevent dangers from getting in but to also discourage villagers from wandering beyond it's borders.

Visions

Many years living in reverence of the artifact and the village elder had started hearing whispers coming from the strange stone, willing him to use the eye as if it were his own. Many had believed this to be the voice of a deity, trying to reach out to the tribe to bestow their guidance. The whispers from an era long ago inscribed within tomes and manuscripts that line the walls of The Citadel to this day.
"This place is a lie... A part of the chaos... Pay attention."
"The danger is still present, In your time, As it was in ours."
"Something lurks here.. Adorn my eye, I will show you."
  With a blade in hand, The village elder knew what he had to do; Replacing his own eye with that of the artifact - He saw visions of war from an age long gone, Towering behemoths the size of mountains rupturing the earth, Masses of sinew and bone animating to life as they are torn from a colossal entity by it's adversary who shone with a glowing green ray of light. As the vision began to fade he heard a voice once more, This time clearer and louder - Metallic yet soft, Demanding yet comforting, It announced;
"I Velorum child of Empyria have not vanquished my foes"
"This task I must give to you, They are not what they seem, Seek the truth."
"Trust not your eyes, For they are the deceiver."

Many other variations of this dialogue are seen within the manuscripts of the order, And most of it is kept secret known only to those of the highest rank.
  It was said that as soon as the vision dissipated that the elder had briefly slipped into a state of mania as he tried to rip the eye of the socket. This is only an excerpt of what the elder had allowed the tribe to know, Tales from elders proceeding had them believing that there was some bitter truths that he had spared them from knowing.

The Citadel

To this day the eye sits in the statue of Velorum within The Citadel of Rainegate, Their most precious possession that had taken a tribe and turned them into mighty warriors; Some believe that using the eye may still hold the truths that they seek yet as a symbol and revered artifact of the Order it remains encased and guarded within marble and stone. The whispers had long been silent for an era yet their hopes were not dashed in that one day their patron deity would soon bring them guidance once more.
