The Sun Princess
Once upon a time, there was a lonely farmer who lived within the deserts of Lumine. The days were long and hot, while the nights were dark and cold. Due to the frigid night temperatures, the farmer struggled to keep his crops alive and often awoke to disappointment. Little did the farmer know, that way above within the sky, the sun watched him everyday. Over the years, the sun had begun to keep watch over the farmer and protect his crop from the cold. One year, the farmer's crops, withstood many of the cold desert nights, both the farmer and the sun were thrilled as this meant the crops would live. Unfortunately, a terrible sandstrom blew over the land one night and destroyed all the farmer's hard work. Devastated, the farmer, lost of all hope, fell to his knees and begged for a sign that he should keep going. He pleaded to the gods all night and eventually when the sun woke, he was heard. The sun, who having for so long desired to see the farmer prosper, looked at the man who had lost everything, and wept for him. From the cries of the sun, a single tear of golden light fell upon the earth, and in the ruins of the farmer's beloved land, it softly fell upon the ground. The farmer, dazed, watched as the tear seeped into the ground. For a moment, all was quiet, then within the soil, the light spead and touched his crops. What had been dead and gray, was suddenly bright and alive again. The farmer could not believe what had happened, and lept with joy. As he turned to go home, he heard a soft cry. The farmer slowly approached the sound and saw that a baby lay where the tear had landed. With no other explanation than having been born from the sun, the farmer knew she was a gift from the gods. He scooped the young child in his arms and took her home. As the years passed, the child grew into a beautiful young woman, bringing good fortune to the land each harvest. The farmer knew that keeping her locked away from the world would do no good, and brought her to the city. As she explored the city, many stopped to admire her. It was as if light radiated from her golden hair, and the people she met became blessed. Soon, the prince heard of the town's new blessings and sought the farmer out, for the kingdom had had many years of misfortune. Immediately the prince was enamoured with the womand, and brought her before the king. They travelled the land, bringing good fortune to all she met and soon the land flourished under her touch. Over time, the prince and the woman fell in love, and once they returned home, the prince wed her. Beloved by all the people, the woman shone with happiness, and those around her were always well. As word spread into other lands of the blessed princess, a neighboring king became envious of the princess's fortune. Consumed with hatred and jealousy, the king had his spies enter the kingdom, and in the silence of night, they murdered the beloeved princess. As the princess felt her life slip away, she knew that her beloved people would soon again suffer, and so with the last of her breath she called out just as the farmer had, all those years ago. The sun, just beginning to wake, heard her soft cry carried on the wind, and same as the farmer all those years before, turned to look at the girl. Seeing the beautiful child that had fallen from the sky and given her life to help her people, the sun knew he could not let this be her end. As her eyes closed for the final time, a light shone from within her, and she slowly rose towards the sky. When she opened her eyes, she was above her beloeved land watching the bustle about on the ground below. And so she stayed, up in the clouds with the sun, never setting, forever blessing her home and the people she loved.
