Prologue
The air was thick with heat as smoke billowed over the ground. He couldn’t watch anymore. his life had come to this, witnessing the end. Years they had fought for this, hidden themselves until the time was right. But, he was late. Too late, and now, life as everyone had known was over. He’s been told that this was for the greater good, believed it had been for the greater good. Yet now he wished he could take it back, everything he ever said or did, because then things might have been different. Nevertheless, he had to move, before the light had been expelled, before he was seen alive. Struggling to his feet, he felt the stir of something inside of him, whether it was his survival instinct, or something else, he knew he could get up. And he did.

The sky darkened as power radiated through the air. A cloaked man stood atop a cliff, facing a shadow in a bright light. The stranger vigorously chanted as the shadow thrust himself at unseen walls, growing weaker. Energy swirled around them, creating a humming noise that they felt in their bones. As colors seeped through his robe, the hooded figure held his ground, willing an unseen force to push back the shadow. Screams erupted from the light as the shadow broke and the cloaked man let out a powerful gust of energy. banishing the shadow.

He had to make it back to safety. The whole world would be changing tonight, and he didn’t want to be outside while it was happening. The sky rumbled with thunder as black lightning flashed through the clouds. Reaching his stronghold, he hurriedly barred the rough oak doors and chanted a spell, sealing them from the inside. His quick steps echoed through the empty halls as he ran to his chambers. Swiftly, he pulled a rusted old trunk from under his worn cot, unlocking it with a small key he’d pulled from his neck. The hinges were stiff and the lid opened with a slow creak. The inside was filled with scrolls engulfed in dust. He gathered them up before shoving the trunk back under his bed and ran to the north tower.
Nice little prologue for Agents of the Damned Book 1. This is still a work in progress, but wanted to publish what I have. Im hoping to lengthen it by a lot and adding way more detail and possibly change the ending. It is supposed to end on a cliffhanger, which will be revealed later at like the end of the series.
