Painted Willows

Painted willows are a species of willow tree that have the ability to change the colors of their leaves to match temperatures and seasons. They are highly regarded are sacred trees in Phiero and are used as omens within their religion. Some say that the groves changing of their leaves is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Caladrius.

Painted Willows have thinner trunks with smooth round bark. Their branches and leaves weep down to cascade over the ground. Their leaves are long and thin yet close together.

Painted Willows do not gain the ability to change color until they have fully matured and start the last stages of their lifecycle.

Ecology and Habitats

Painted willows are found in grassy lands with cooler temperatures and lots of wind. They grow in groves and can sync their color changes.

Biological Cycle

Painting Willows are in full bloom in Viridis and keep their leaves until Procella when the wind blows their leaves off. Right before their leaves are about to fall, they all turn white.

Domestication

Painted willows are mainly wild trees in Crophia and Uria, however in Phiero they are fully domesticated. Thye are grown for religious use and are seen throughout major cities in Phiero.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The bark of a Painted Willow is used to make pain medication. The leaves os a Painted Willow are also able to sewn into clothing to allow the fabric to change colors.
