Extinction
A great upheaval happened in the years 1000 through 1330, casting all non-humans in a darker light. 330 years of strife and persecution, culminating in the worst king the realms have ever seen. Blood and Fire, ancient words, ring true yet again as Asturica and the Holy Ruptured Empire are plunged into Chaos of the likes of which no living person can remember.
In the year 1000, 12AM, of the 12th day, of the 12th month, several political coups were launched at the positions of power of all lands. Having been disallowed positions of power, rebellious instigators of the downtrodden, the Elder Races, planned the invasion of the Holy Ruptured Empire.
In a long bloody war, filled with assassinations and bombings, the Ad Naggrundi as they called themselves, the Ruined, fought the HRE. The goal was simple, destroy the moral of the humans, and force them to submit. Only, it turned out that the moral of humans is stronger than the Ad Naggrundi had thought.
For 190 years, this rebellion dragged on. Countless lives were lost, and in some people, a hatred started to brew towards the Elder Races.
Not only had the Elder Races deigned to attack the HRE, not only had they done so dishonourably, but some of them took to dark magics to gain power. The most notable of which is Source. Two leaders proclaimed themselves among the Ad Naggrundi.
Mandos, an Elf of great and powerful magic, and Rhagakhaz, a Dwarf of immense strength who is said to have consorted with the gods of Chaos.
Together with their armies, and the help of dark powers, they nearly brought the Empire under Rhogal I Vetyris (26-76) to its knees.
When Rhogal Vetyris, saw that the time was needed again to show dragon-fire, he did. Without a care for friend or foe, all non-humans burned in the fire. The Faith of the Seven was commanded by Rhogal to start an Inquisition against Non-Humans 10 years into the Ruining. Millions died in the fire, many were innocents who were okay with the previous status-quo.
Mandos and Rhagakhaz fled into the depths of the world, ending the actual war, in the year 1190 AV, 190 years into the Ruining. But the rage of Vetyris and their dragons had been reignited, and so the Ruining continued on for another 140 years before finally ending in the year 1330.
Rhogal himself died of old age at the age of 85 in the year 1059, and when he did so, it is said that his 2 dragons, the last in the known world, died at the exact same moment. His successor was King Vaegar I Vetyris (1041 AV-1130 AV), who died at the hands of Dwarven assassins in the year 1130, at the age of 89. His successor was Vaesaris I Vetyris (1059-1152 AV), who died at the age of 93. Vaesaris I Vetyris' successor was Rhogal II Vetyris (1081-1186 AV). Rhogal II Vetyris' successor was Vaesaris II Vetyris (1111-1251 AV). Vaesaris II Vetyris' successor was none other than Vaegar II Vetyrs "The Son of Dragons" (1200-1330 AV), who died the hand of King Richard Anglohr.
Like his predecessor, but even more worse, King Vaegar I Vetyris hated non-humans, and ruled with an even harsher iron fist than his father. King Vaegar I Vetyris militarized the Faith of the Seven completely, turning them into "The Inquisition Dragonfire", no longer were sermons and preaches held, the Inquisition of Dragonfire's only goal was the purge of all non-humans, from Dwarves to Elves, from Gnomes to Minotaurs, from Half-Breeds to Silfari.
As the line of succession, and the Ruining continued on, the line of Vetyris kept becoming even more cruel and cruel. Until eventually, King Vaegar II "Son of Dragons" Vetyris burned anyone and everyone he didn't like, with an alchemical fire called Wildfire. There's a saying about the Vetyrians, "At the birth of one, flip a coin, heads they'll be insane, tails they'll be great leaders like Tarhavaelis Vetyris, the first conquerer".
When King Richard Anglohr won his rebellion, it may have just been a rebellion for his family, but it meant the end of the Ruining. King Richard Anglohr, hellbent on the destruction of all of House Vetyris, he had hundreds of babies, children, teenagers, and adults executed, if they shared any possible blood with House Vetyris, he also chased out the last surviving official remnants of House Vetyris, to the point they fled to Ara Pyra, the ancestral home of House Vetyris
