Sylfari

Sylfari are a mutation. Everyone in Asturica knows this. They trace back generations, and no one truly knows when they first came to be, though it can be determined that they originated from the Sea of the Elder, and the Muir Droman people. But that is only discernible from the names of the different groups of Sylfari. The clanns of Bear, Cat, Manticore, Griffin, Viper, and Wolf.
Sylfari are often not entirely different, from a distance. But as soon as one gets close, one can see their eyes, with cat like pupils. Additionally, occasionally one can find a Sylfari that has been intoxicated by their own potions, and see the veins darkened in the skin. Other than that, a Sylfari is no more different appearing than any of the Elder or Younger races.
One quality that does maintain across all Sylfari, is their being sterile. The process of becoming a Sylfari, an alchemical imbibement that mutates young children, effects the body in such a way to accidentally make a Sylfari sterile.
It should be noted, not all Sylfari are trained by the clanns. This can come from a number of reasons, a Sylfari being "marked" and subsequently refused to be trained, is one reason uncovered from the secretive clanns. Those who do get trained, are not only Sylfari, they become Aes yn erbyn Cyfnos, or Shields Against Twilight. Only the Aes Cyfnos, as they're alternatively called, know the true meaning behind the name Shields Against Twilight. It should be noted, that there have been conspiracies that the Aes yn erbyn Cyfnos were once called Aes yn erbyn Cyfnod, but no one knows for sure if that's true, or what it would mean, since it is so similar one can assume it would mean "Shields Against" and then an unknown word.
