CAENAR

Caenar is the setting for the Ascendant Chronicles, a dark fantasy with cyberpunk and biopunk elements. Its a world once ruled by a race of highly advanced beings known as the Elders who brought humans and other creatures from Earth to use as slaves, soldiers and to study. When they disappeared in an apocalyptic event called the Cataclysm the world of was broken and reshaped and their former slaves were cast adrift. Over the centuries they would create for themselves new nations and would use the technology left over to carve out new territories and war with one another for resources as well as the numerous horrors spawned from the Cataclysm. Thus it is a world of techno-barbarism, one that blends advanced technology with mysticism and savagery.

The most powerful nation is that of Bel'Zanar; a sprawling city-state governed by the mysterious Mesitori sect. With access to the Citadel, a towering arcologly filled with Elder tech, the Mesitori are able to dominate Caenar and extract tribute from those who not wish to incur their wrath. For centuries this has endured and the vassal nations of Caenar are close to revolting, threatening to destroy what little civilisation they have built.

It is this growing conflict between Bel'Zanar and the other nations, along with growing threats from long dormant forces, that the Ascendant Chronicles revolves around.
