Symbols

A sealed black tome bound in gold wire, radiating faint glyphs. A broken porcelain mask pierced by a golden quill, representing the power of hidden knowledge and the cost of revelation.   Velcranis manifests as a cloaked figure whose silhouette constantly shifts, obscured by layers of shadow etched with drifting arcane symbols. His face is hidden behind a two-toned porcelain mask—one half pristine and blank, the other cracked and darkened. Whispered incantations coil through the air around him, barely audible but impossibly ancient. His presence induces unease, as if the space around him bends to conceal truths.   Velcranis is insidious, brilliant, and endlessly patient. He views knowledge as sacred currency, secrets as weapons, and truth as a tool for domination. He does not seek worship in temples but obedience in thought. His followers are seduced not by fear but by curiosity—the fatal desire to know more than they should. Velcranis orchestrates events from the shadows, seeding betrayal, corruption, and ambition like rot beneath gilded foundations.   Velcranis was no god when the Primordial War began—only a mortal of terrifying ambition. A philosopher-archmage who delved where even the Celestial Architects feared to look, he unearthed truths buried in the folds of reality. Through sacrilegious rites and the betrayal of his closest allies, Velcranis consumed a sliver of divine essence, ascending by theft. The gods tried to erase his name from fate, but he had already inscribed it into the foundation of magic. Velcranis did not fall. He climbed—dragging the corpses of forgotten deities behind him.

Desires and Motivations

Velcranis seeks to acquire and control forbidden knowledge, manipulate the truths of others, and subvert societal and divine structures through secrecy. He wishes to hoard the deepest truths of creation for himself, to see the world reshaped not by strength or virtue, but by the hidden and the unspoken.   Once a mortal obsessed with arcane perfection, Velcranis ascended through ritual and betrayal. Legends tell of how he lost his face during his final rite—an offering to veil himself from divine sight. The mask he wears is said to be the first seal upon his true name. Though his mortal identity is long forgotten, his influence is felt anywhere truth is feared or weaponized.   Velcranis's domain, The Archivum Obscurum, is a shadowed library that stretches endlessly in all directions. Tomes float through the air like ghosts, each bound in memory, flesh, or shadow. The innermost sanctum, The Black Vault, holds the most dangerous truths in the cosmos—secrets so potent they can rewrite reality. Only Velcranis holds the keys.   His followers include heretics, spies, rogue scholars, and arcane manipulators. The Shadowed Cabal of the Hand is a clandestine network that infiltrates guilds, courts, and arcane institutions. Each cell is unaware of the others, guided by encoded missives and indirect orders. Their enigmatic leader, the Keeper of Secrets, interprets Velcranis's will and orchestrates long-term schemes that may span generations.

Allies and Rivals

Nersherass – Velcranis sees Nersherass's greed as a tool for spreading corruption and temptation, making their goals occasionally align.   Gurapsis – The god of despair's emotional entropy pairs well with Velcranis's mental manipulation, leading to dark collaborations.   Tailer – The Goddess of Death and Balance despises Velcranis's manipulation of truth and reality, making her a fierce enemy.   Elaeskinae – Her domain of open knowledge and natural harmony is antithetical to Velcranis’s philosophy of hoarded, weaponized truth.

Vile Relics

The Oracle Shard

A crystalline eye inscribed with micro-runes. When implanted, it grants the bearer premonitions and revelations—but they cannot distinguish prophecy from hallucination.

The Mask of the Forgotten Face

An artifact Velcranis forged upon his ascension. Any who wear it are erased from memory, able to act unseen—but at the cost of their own identity.   Velcranis's influence seeps into every secret kept, every book locked away, and every truth that dies on trembling lips. He inspires scholars to madness, kings to paranoia, and apprentices to betrayal. His cult manipulates history itself, erasing heroes and elevating puppets. Even those who do not know his name serve him, simply by choosing silence over truth.

Legends and Tales

A tale of a prophet who stole the Mask of the Forgotten Face to rewrite her fate—only to vanish from the world, her deeds and name lost forever.

Blessings and Curses

Divine Hierarchy

Velcranis is a Greater Deity, feared not for might but for his control of the unseen. His influence stretches across all who deal in knowledge, illusion, or secrecy. While few worship him openly, his name is carved into the margins of forbidden books and the lips of dying seers.   Velcranis can enact The Whispering Veil to cloak his servants from magical detection. His Forbidden Reach grants or withholds access to truths buried beneath reality. Through The Eye's Gaze, he sees the deepest truths of any being, turning their innermost fears and memories against them.   Though most fear him, there will always be those who seek what should remain hidden. And to them, Velcranis whispers, "Knowledge has no mercy—only consequence."
