The Secondary Elemental Planes

The Creation of the Secondary Elemental Planes

The death of the Child, a newborn Primordial whose very essence embodied boundless potential and unity, marked the begining of the Sorrow War. The Elysium Empire's heinous act of killing the Child to fuel their dwindling Magicite reserves sent shockwaves across the cosmos. The Primordials, outraged and grief-stricken, could not fully comprehend the ramifications of this event until it was too late. The Child’s fragmented essence gave birth to three new elemental planes, each one shaped by the emotions, energies, and consequences of its violent death.   These planes were not born from creation but from destruction and imbalance, becoming scars on the fabric of reality.

The Elemental Plane of Metal

"The Resonance of Grief and Resolve"   When the Child was slain, its flesh and bone were consumed in the forges of the Elysium Empire. From these crucibles, Magicite flowed, but so did an unintentional byproduct: the essence of refinement and endurance. This latent energy sought refuge in the cosmos, forming the Plane of Metal, a realm forged from the Child’s unyielding spirit, forever hardened by the betrayal of its creators. The Plane of Metal is a place of eternal forging. Rivers of molten ore carve paths through crystalline fields, and the sky gleams with metallic clouds. This plane represents grief transmuted into strength, a reflection of the Primordials’ vow to never again allow such a tragedy.   The Iron Sovereign, the first being born from the plane, is said to be the Child’s rage and resolve given form. It forges tirelessly, creating weapons of unimaginable power to arm those who would protect the multiverse. Metal elementals, known as Ferrum Constructs, roam the plane, embodying aspects of discipline and endurance. The plane is also rumored to hold the Hammer of Redemption, a legendary artifact capable of reforging even broken gods.

The Plane of Wood

"The Root of Renewal and Loss"   The Child’s essence of life and growth was violently torn from its body when it was drained to fuel the Elysium Empire's magitech. This energy coalesced into the Plane of Wood, a realm of infinite verdant forests and sprawling root networks, representing the Child’s lost potential to nurture and connect. The Plane of Wood is alive in every sense. Colossal trees stretch into the skies, their roots creating endless networks that echo the Child’s longing to connect all things. However, the realm is also scarred by sorrow; certain regions rot and decay unnaturally, reflecting the pain of the Child’s premature death.   The Verdant Heart, the core of the plane, is said to be a fragment of the Child’s soul, endlessly regrowing yet forever incomplete. The Arboreans, guardians of the plane, were born from the Child’s desire to protect and nourish life. They roam the forests, tending to areas of decay and fostering new growth. Legends tell of the Branch of Rebirth, an artifact capable of restoring life to even the most barren wastelands.

The Plane of Spirit

"The Shattered Bridge Between Worlds"   The Child’s soul, torn from its body, did not vanish entirely. Instead, it became the foundation for the Plane of Spirit, a realm of raw, unformed energy connecting the physical and metaphysical. This plane is said to be the Child’s lingering essence, searching for meaning in the wake of its violent death. The Plane of Spirit is a vast expanse of swirling mists, glowing orbs, and translucent pathways. It serves as a crossroads for the flow of spiritual energy between life, death, and the afterlife, but it is unstable, reflecting the Child’s fractured soul.   The Eternal Guide, a spectral figure of light and shadow, is said to be the manifestation of the Child’s longing to lead souls to peace. Ether Shades, spirits born of the Child’s fragmented soul, act as protectors of the plane, but they are haunted by the echoes of the Child’s pain. The plane is rumored to hold the Tear of Transcendence, an artifact that allows mortals to bridge the gap between life and death, understanding the full cycle of existence.

Impact of the Secondary Planes on the Multiverse

The creation of these secondary planes did not restore balance—it created new complexities in the cosmic order. Each plane reflects the emotional and existential aftermath of the Child’s death, and their existence serves as a constant reminder of the consequences of mortal ambition and divine negligence.
Metal
The plane’s weapons and constructs are now sought after by both the Primordials and mortal empires, creating a new source of conflict.
Wood
The Plane of Wood has become a sanctuary for those seeking renewal, but its regions of rot serve as a grim warning of what happens when life is exploited.
Spirit
The Plane of Spirit gave birth as a conduit through which all souls must pass through to move into the afterlife. Cleansed or judgement awaits here, leading to the outer planes, afterlife, or even if rumored reincarnation.   The Primordials view these planes with mixed emotions. Some see them as an extension of the Child’s legacy and a chance to atone for their failure to protect it. Others view them as scars—painful reminders of the tragedy—and strive to prevent mortals from exploiting these realms.
