The Forge of Champions: The Origin of the Eidolons

In the ageless past, before the shattering of realms and the divergence of mortal and elemental planes, there was a time of unparalleled conflict—the Eclipse Epoch. The heavens roared with celestial light as the armies of the Celestials descended to impose order upon the chaotic Primordials. From the lower planes, the fiends rose with dark ambition, seeking to exploit the chaos for their gain. Between these great powers stood the Primordials, beings of raw, unrefined might, who claimed dominion over creation itself.   The Primordials, bound to the elements and woven into the fabric of existence, unleashed their legions of Elementals to repel their enemies. However, as powerful as these Elementals were, they lacked cohesion, intelligence, and the strategic prowess necessary to turn the tide of war against the disciplined forces of the Celestials and the cunning of the fiends. It was during the darkest days of this war that the Primordials, in desperation, turned to their greatest Forges—places of creation where raw elemental essence merged with cosmic power.   According to ancient myths, it was the Primordial Titans themselves who first conceived the idea of forging champions. The story tells of a great convergence, where titans like Bohentea, Lonost, and Silturm set aside their differences and pooled their elemental power into a single purpose. Their voices rumbled across the planes, calling upon the greater Primordials to lend their strength.   Each Primordial imbued a fragment of their will into the forging process. Embaroth, the Inferno Warden, ignited the first flame that would serve as the heart of the champions. Abyssylis, the Aquaric Sentinel, added the cooling waters of clarity and adaptability. Terrazar, the Ascendant Stoneward, provided the unyielding foundation, and Voryn, the Endless Cyclone, infused the essence of speed and precision. Together, they created a framework for the beings who would bridge the gap between raw elemental chaos and deliberate purpose.

The First Forge: Genesis of the Twelve

The Forge of Eternity, said to be located at the nexus of the elements, was activated with the combined power of the Primordials. The process of creation was unlike anything the multiverse had seen before. Elemental essence was refined, shaped, and tempered by the will of the Primordials. The first twelve creations—what would later be known as the Eidolons—emerged from the forge.   Each Eidolon was unique, designed to embody the strategic brilliance and martial prowess that the Elementals lacked. They were champions of their respective elements, infused with the power to command entire legions and the intelligence to outmaneuver the celestial and fiendish forces. Among them were figures like Ifritor, the Flame Champion, whose fiery resolve could shatter armies, and Garudon, the Stormlord, whose mastery of the skies turned battles into spectacles of primal fury.   The Eidolons quickly proved their worth. Legends say their arrival on the battlefield marked the turning point of the Eclipse Epoch. They fought not as mindless embodiments of destruction but as cohesive, tactical leaders. Their presence rallied the Elementals and transformed disorganized chaos into an elemental onslaught that neither the Celestials nor the fiends could withstand.   Myths speak of Zurvanir, the Eternal Conqueror, who shattered a celestial bastion with a single, decisive strike, and Leviathus, the Abyssal Marauder, who drowned a fleet of fiendish warships beneath unrelenting waves. The Eidolons became more than champions—they were legends in their own time, names whispered with reverence and awe across the elemental planes.   However, their creation came at a cost. The Primordials, in forging the Eidolons, had poured immense portions of their power into the process, weakening their connection to the elemental planes. It is said that this act of creation planted the seeds of division among the Primordials, as some viewed the Eidolons as a betrayal of their raw, unrestrained nature. To others, they were a necessary evolution, the perfect balance between chaos and order. Despite this the Eidolons are unwavering in their loyalty to the Primordials.   As the eons passed and the Eclipse Epoch came to an end, the story of the Eidolons' creation faded into obscurity. Mortals told tales of the champions as divine warriors or mythic figures who fought to protect the balance of existence, but the truth of their origins was buried beneath the sands of time. Only the most ancient texts and whispered traditions among elemental sages speak of the Forge of Eternity and the great convergence of the Primordials.   Even as their origin remains shrouded in mystery, the Eidolons endure as symbols of elemental perfection. They stand as the bridge between the unbridled chaos of the Elementals and the calculated order of the greater Primordials. Their presence inspires awe, fear, and respect, and their legends remind all who hear them of the Primordials’ ability to create both destruction and hope.
