Temple of the Four Seasons

Temple of the Four Seasons

“The land turns, the spirits sing, and the wheel begins anew.” — Eilis of the Equinox   Carved into the mossy side of a southern hillside, the Temple of the Four Seasons is a sacred sanctuary where the cycles of nature are honored in harmony. The structure blends seamlessly with the earth—part cave, part garden, part elemental altar. Each chamber is aligned with one of the cardinal directions and dedicated to a season, marked with carvings, flora, and relics unique to that time of year.   The druids of the Veil gather here during the solstices and equinoxes to perform rites that align with the natural turning of the land’s energy, ensuring balance between growth and decay, warmth and cold, life and rest.

General Information

Type- Sacred Site (Seasonal Temple & Ritual Grounds)
Location- Southern Tarnith, at the foot of the Mistcloaked Ridges
Environment- Temperate forested hills; humid glades with seasonal wildflower growth and light mists

Spiritual Significance

Each direction-facing altar represents a seasonal force:
  • North – Winter: Silence, preservation, introspection
  • East – Spring: Renewal, birth, hope
  • South – Summer: Vitality, passion, bounty
  • West – Autumn: Reflection, decline, reverence
  • Rituals held within the temple are timed with celestial events, including solstices, equinoxes, and eclipses. Offerings range from fruit and herbs to whispered prayers sealed in clay jars and buried at season-specific altars.

    Notable Features

    The Blooming Gate
A stone arch overgrown with flowering vines that only blossom during the solstice of their aligned season. It marks the formal entrance to the temple.
    The Elemental Halls
Four interlinked alcoves representing Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Each hosts rites tied to the corresponding seasonal cycle.
    The Wheel Mosaic
At the center of the temple lies a circular mosaic that turns faintly at dawn. When the seasons change, it realigns itself to point toward the active altar.

    Hazards

Elemental Recoil – If the temple is disturbed during an incorrect seasonal rite, it may backlash with minor elemental surges (flash frost, sudden winds, thorn growth, or illusions).
Unbalanced Pilgrims – Those who perform rituals out of greed or imbalance may invoke the attention of wild spirits that guard the temple’s sanctity.
