"It only grows where grief lingers, and yet it brings peace." — Elenais Thorne, Grove-Tender of An Fhionnarít Uaimh
General Information
Type: Spirit-Touched Plant
Habitat: Shadowed glades and burial hollows of Tarnith, especially near
An Fhionnarít Uaimh
Appearance: Slender, bluish-gray stalks with soft, downy heads that sway even without wind
Overview
Sorrowgrass is a quiet, mournful plant that grows only where deep emotional trauma or ancestral grief has left its mark. It is never sown, only appearing in places touched by loss, reverence, or ancient tragedy. Found most often near spirit sites, it is considered both a warning and a comfort.
Druids of the Veil refer to it as "the grief that sings," for when the wind moves through a patch of Sorrowgrass, it produces a haunting, flute-like hum.
Mystical Properties
Grief Resonance: Possesses a passive calming aura—those who linger near it feel sorrow, but also clarity and catharsis.
Ashen Brew: When steeped into tea by an experienced herbalist, the grass can ease the pain of mourning or allow for lucid dreams of the departed.
Wailing Blight: In corrupted or haunted areas, Sorrowgrass can blacken and release mournful shrieks audible only to spirits—often acting as a warning of unrest.
Cultural Significance
Patches of Sorrowgrass are left untouched. Druids place tokens of bone, stone, or memory among them to honor the grief they represent. Harvesting the grass is taboo unless done during the
Cycle of Reflection for rituals of release or ancestral communion.
It is believed that every blade hums with the story of a sorrow too sacred to be forgotten.
