The Gharai are a confederation of feared pirate clans, forged in the saltblood of war and sea. With roots tracing back to coastal exiles and warrior-tribes from Bariculbos, they now rule shattered reefs, hidden coves, and mobile sea-forts across the western ocean. While labeled as pirates by outsiders, the Gharai do not see themselves as criminals—but as inheritors of the old war tides, bound by honor, vengeance, and survival.

Structure & Clans

The Gharai are not a single fleet, but a network of fiercely independent clans—each one centered around a flagship, a sea-pact, or an ancestral oath. Power shifts constantly through Bloodduels and Salt Oaths. Alliances are fluid, but betrayal carries a price etched in flesh. Each Gharai clan is led by a Reaver Lord or Tide Matron, whose word is law aboard their ship and among their sworn kin.

The Gharai follow the Code of the Black Wake, a fluid but fiercely upheld tradition:

• The sea chooses leaders – not blood, not gold
• Bury nothing that still breathes

They mark victories with salt-branded tattoos, honor the dead with bone-ink rituals, and hold shipboard feasts after every major raid.
