Aetherborne Descendant
Sorcerer Subclass – Tempest Fringe / Aetherial Crest
Overview
The Aetherborne Descendant is a sorcerer whose bloodline is irrevocably marked by the raw energy of the Aetherial Crest. Whether descended from an entity born in the skies beyond the Tempest Fringe, touched by a rupture in the arcane ley-lines, or born during an aetherstorm, their power is a volatile gift.
These sorcerers channel radiant chaos, creating distortions in light, gravity, and reality itself. They do not just cast spells—they manifest phenomena. Their every movement hums with arcane friction, and the very fabric of the world seems thinner in their presence.
Aether-Fused Core
1st-level Aetherborne Descendant feature
You are infused with raw aetheric power. Choose one energy alignment:
Radiant or
Force.
When you cast a sorcerer spell that deals damage of your chosen type, add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell.
You learn the
light cantrip and
mage armor spell. These count as sorcerer spells for you and don’t count against your number of spells known.
Phase Pulse
1st-level Aetherborne Descendant feature
You can briefly destabilize your presence as your magic surges.
When you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, you may teleport up to 10 feet to an unoccupied space you can see as a bonus action.
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a long rest.
Reality Flare
6th-level Aetherborne Descendant feature
Your aetheric power destabilizes reality around you.
When you cast a spell that deals radiant or force damage, you can force creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier). On a failure, they take damage equal to your Charisma modifier and have disadvantage on the next saving throw they make before the end of your next turn.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Aether Echo
14th-level Aetherborne Descendant feature
You leave behind a shimmering afterimage of yourself in the wake of your spellcasting.
When you cast a sorcerer spell, you may create a translucent echo of yourself within 10 feet. This echo lasts until the start of your next turn and provides one of the following benefits:
Distracts enemies: The first attack against you before your next turn is made with disadvantage.
Mimics casting: You may cast a cantrip from the echo’s space instead of your own.
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest.
Arc of the Crest
18th-level Aetherborne Descendant feature
You fully channel the unstable brilliance of the Aetherial Crest.
As an action, you unleash your stored chaos for 1 minute:
You gain a flying speed of 60 feet.
When you cast a spell that deals radiant or force damage, it deals an additional 1d6 damage of that type.
At the end of each of your turns, you may roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, you regain 1 expended sorcery point.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Aetherborne Descendants in Caemothas
Born near unstable rifts, Tempest Fringe storms, or ancient vaults of wild arcana, Aetherborne Descendants blur the line between reality and raw energy. They are unpredictable, radiant, and often feared by structured magical orders—but revered by those who seek the truth beyond the sky.
To encounter one is to witness what magic becomes when the universe forgets to hold back.
