Octave "Pious" Belcraath served as a paladin's squire in their youth, which set them on their current path.  On multiple occasions Octave was told by local arcanists that they were squandering their intelligence and talents, that they should seek out an education and take advantage of their gifts.  However, when Belcraath's mentor broke his oath, Octave was spurred to take up their own mantle.
