Sacer'asim

Sacer’asim, those born to rule (2500-2000)   In the beginning over Delvatoria, a mote of light was said to have appeared on the skies of the western coast. It was there that the Lady of Light, Erathis herself stepped onto Caelos for the first time since the plane’s inception. She saw untamed plains, black mountains with cavernous maws delving beneath the earth and into the Underdark, as well as glowing red peaks, towering above the land, breaking above the clouds. This new place was missing something; it was missing order. A guiding hand to make it into something beautiful, something that could be useful to the rest of the multiverse. It was after only a short while there that she placed her servants upon the land, the Erithari (Blue Skinned Aasimar). These were select individuals gifted with the blood and heritage of angelic servitors. They’d each been given a guide, their fathers. There were no female angels to guide these new creations, as Erathis was the only mother that any would need.   And so the great work of conquering and reclaiming wild and untamed lands of Sacer’asim began. Of the Erithari, one individual was chosen to lead his brothers and sisters above the rest; Adriel. He was strong, charismatic, and truly noble in heart, striving after the intentions of his divine mother as best he could in all he did. As with the other divine beings making their way into Caelos, the other end of the spectrum also made its way to meet with Erathis’ desires to see law and order wash over the land. A friend for millennia, Asmodeus made his way onto the scene of southern Delvatoria. He brought with him a contingency of his devilish legions and began work right away. He always admired the work Erathis would do and often thought she was simply too gentle her followers. Law and Order must be made to follow, otherwise there would be consequences, dire ones at that. He wanted to see who’s children would be better suited to rule, and so he set them upon the task of claiming this new land, what he would name as Kerismattia.   It wouldn’t be for 150 years before the children of Asmodeus and Erathis would finally meet around the upper middle of Delvatoria. Asmodeus’ chief servant Vezrorik was a mighty wielder of magic. He didn’t make it a goal of his to ever meet Adriel in direct conflict as it would likely not turn out well for him, and so he schemed and made deals and worked every advantage he could for his people and himself against his Erithari adversaries. The next 350 years would be filled with numerous instances of trade deals, followed by swift betrayal and bloodshed resolving finally inevitably in a blood filled war.   As both Asmodeus and Erathis made their leave of Caelos, the border between Kerismattia and Sacer’asim was formed and keeps erected on either side of it, establishing the scene for the next 2,000 years. Both the Erithari and Hellborn were similar in their differences from the other races of Caelos in that they were intensely focused on destroying the other. Eventually dwarves, humans, elves and the like found their way into Sacer’asim entranced and enchanted by the angelic Erithari. Many took it upon themselves to serve these beings as they couldn’t help but believe that there was something unique or special about them; some quality that just made them better. This practice began a precedent early on in the culture of Sacer’asim that the Erithari were creatures to nearly be worshipped and that every other race had its purpose somehow tied into service of them, and to the greater cause of Erathis in the end. Within the borders of Kerismattia the denizens and creatures who’d come from the Nine Hells were no stranger to subservience and slavery, and very quickly established a society where those same principles carried over. Tabaxi, Grung, Half-Orcs, Lizardfolk, as well as most other intelligent creatures make up the primary force under the rulership of the Tiefling Hellborn.   Sacer’asim, Reclaimers of Erathis (2000-present)   Before Erathis had left her children to the work she’d set out for them to do, she crafted a gilded stone and carved a name into it. Thael Serine, was what it said, and when she was asked about what it meant, she simply told them that wherever this was placed would be their home. So from the ground she was said to have left back to Mount Celestia, they laid that stone down as the palace’s cornerstone and to this day, it’s said that when an Erithari child reaches the age of adulthood, they go and commune with that same stone, and ask for the blessing of their divine mother. From that stone was built the Ventian Palace, which would become the center of power of the Erathian Empire as it stands still to this day. Adriel made it his mission to embody the tenets of what it meant to be a child of Erathis:   • Work with others to achieve your goals. Community and Order are always stronger than individuals. • Tame the wilderness to make it fit for habitation, and defend the light of civilization against darkness. • Seek out new ideas, inventions, lands and wildernesses. Build machines, cities, and empires.   With these tenets in mind he established several of the great institutions of Caelos begun since the beginning of the 3rd age:   • The Castello Costatti was built past the Eastern plains, south of Radia Cove. There they built one of the largest libraries and places of arcane study within Caelos. There sit the 5 Lucatem, or ”Light Bringers”. This is a group of some of the most powerful magic wielders within Sacer’asim who’s primary responsibility is to provide council to the Lucat (Emperor) in matters pertaining to magic or general knowledge. They also seek out tomes and knowledge and often send out search parties for such things.   • The Radiant Bastion is where soldiers and other military activity are governed. Training of new recruits, setting up assignments, building war ships or war machines; everything happens at the Radiant Bastion if the military has some stake in it.   • The Seraph Academy is a sub-set of the Radiant Bastion but operates mostly on its own. Not much is known by the public about what goes on there. Each of these organizations has since their inceptions been instrumental in creating and building the Erathian Empire as it stands today. As is customary by Erathian Law, an Aasimar sits at the heads of each of these organizations. One’s nobility is largely determined by what they’re able to accomplish with their lives, unless you are born an Aasimar. Then, your nobility is born with you and there are a number of benefits, as well as expectations, that simply become part of life. Lucat Sachiel currently leads the Empire, with ambitions to press further into Kerismattia than any of his predecessors before him. The current Ducem of the Radiant Bastion is Haziel, and being a more than accomplished warrior herself, plans to help realize the Lucat’s ambitions. Those of the Castello Costatti are split somewhat on whether or not they should pursue more peaceful solutions for the conflict, but nevertheless submit to the authority of the Lucat.   Madan's Landing During the middle years of the 3rd Age (1600-1528) there was a particularly brutal contingent of the Kerimassian military that was put together for the explicit purpose of hunting down Eritharian born sorcerers. This group, known by the moniker Immortal Flame, somehow broke through the defenses present in The Forest of Teeth and at Shadowglenn without detection. Some thought that there was no way this could have happened without some sort of treachery but the means by which the Immortal Flame were never discovered. At any rate, they made their way through to Aspen's Crossing, overwhelming the fortress and its defenses immediately. Many were slain or taken prisoner and 2 notable Erishta (those born under auspicious conditions or stars and exhibiting sorcerous manifestations) were also taken. This campaign continued until they reached Kedalistun. At this juncture the Erithari had already prepared their defenses and organized what they could given the short time to respond. The battle was waged ferociously by both sides but the Erithari were beginning to lose again, when what can only be described as a miracle occurred. A group of Erithrian vassals (humans/half-elves from other parts of Caelos) were fighting in the ranks when they were overcome with the enemies hellfire attacks. Instead of burning like the others, something awakened in them and magic loosed itself from their forms. Overcome with power and wracked with pain and euphoria (according to some accounts), this group, led by a human named Medan, began burning through the center of the Immortal Flame, breaking the siege and turning the tide. When the battle was finished, the survivors of this group, on 4 after all was finished, were named heroes and blessed of Erathis. The Lucat granted Medan Kedalistun which was renamed Medan's Landing in honor of his true heritage arriving in Caelos. This was the first instance in the history of Sacer'asim where a non-Erathian was granted a rank and status among the nobility.   The Savage Crags Along the northern parts of the continent are a range of mountains called The Savage Crags. During the late parts of the 3rd age (1315-1308), those of Kerismattia led a massive invasion through the center of the continent in an attempt to end their centuries old war. During the Battle at Sullenfall many of the invaders were slain, and those that weren’t captured fled northward into these mountains, along the river. There they hid away in the mountains and made friends with the local creatures and monstrosities that already called those hills home. Unfortunately, the current Lucat had thought that their forces would be torn asunder by the many beasts of the Savage Lands and did not pursue them before they laid roots down. Now today, there stands a fortress within the center of The Savage Crags with watchtowers built all along the riverside. There have been a handful of larger incursions over the years, but for the most part they are seen as nothing more than a minor nuisance to be dealt with by the soldiers of Sullenfell Keep.   Radia Cove   Not too long after Thael Serin had been founded, another group of the Erithari made an expedition for the east of Sacer’asim. They were charged with building a secondary city in case something were to happen within capital and so they did. This is the largest port within the Empire, Griffon’s Port coming in a close second. This city is cared for by the Praefect Jabril and under his guidance, this has become the trade capital of the Empire and sees the most diverse population for it.   Silverbluff   After the borders had been established across the Forest of Teeth, and south of The Veiled Wood, settlers began moving into the area beneath the Silverbluff Mountains. Once settled there, they quickly found that there were immense silver deposits nestled within these great mountains. Soon a community developed as more resources were required to get these mines in proper working order. Over the years, many of those who've escaped the chains of the Kerimassians have fled northward. Many are dwarven in heritage and find themselves particularly at home in the city as their access to the mountain and mines is hard to find anywhere else in the country. Over the years the dwarves that have accumulated here have actually become the primary demographic in Silverbluff and have a sort of 'Secondary' aristocracy or local nobility of their own within the city. Of course, they still answer to the Praefect as to not do so would mean immediate dismissal or in extreme cases, death. An Erithari by the name of Nisroc is the current Praefect of Silverbluff. There’ve been some issues within The Black Wood causing some problems for the locals of Rosenwood.     Shadowglenn   The township of Shadowglenn was built soon after Veil Keep as a midpoint for resupply operations. Unfortunately, many unsavory folk made their way into The Veiled Wood seeing quite the “business” opportunity that presented itself there. Being the closest civilized place near the border of Kerismattia, thieves, assassins, mercenaries, and every other sort of vagabond one can imagine tried to carve out their own piece of the possible profits around that area. There are two bandit factions that’ve made their way into the woods, fighting one another as well as taking advantage of travelers and caravans through the area. The Untamed are one of these factions, and they’re infamous for submitting themselves to the wilds of The Veiled Wood, embracing their more feral instincts. The second and perhaps more insidious group are known as the Red Kings and are more organized as well as far reaching in their influence over the region. They’ve been known to employ some sneakier tactics to achieve their ends. Recently there’s been a group of adventurers known as The Silver Brand who built a keep to the southwest of the settlement. They’re always looking for more people interested in joining their ranks and making some money along the way. There are always whispers running through the town about the goings on in each of the Empires along the border as well, and information does not come cheaply.   Fiery Gorge Mountain   Sitting atop the largest point in the northern half of the continent, this is a dormant volcano, having erupted nearly 2,000 years ago, marking the beginning of the 3rd age. There have been stories of giant creatures rumbling beneath the stone, as well as tribes of kobolds and goblins roaming near the base of mountain and it’s common knowledge to avoid such dangers.
