Structure
The King or Queen Elect of Zodallos is the Chief Magistrate and leads the kingdom. They are elected, usually for life, by members of the Great Conclave. The King or Queen's role is to advise on legislation that should be looked at by the conclave, manage the execution of laws as and when they are passed, maintain the armies of Zodallos, plan for the intelligence needs of the kingdom and keep track of the kingdom's enemies. Four times a year, they also preside over the Grand Jury. They must also act within a set of restrictions: they themselves cannot vote on the laws, their direct family can attend the conclave meetings but must also abstain from voting, and they cannot directly communicate with any foreign leader.
The Royal Consort also is given duties to welcome and look after foreign emissaries while they are on official visits in the kingdom. If the new monarch has no spouse, the High Council will elect someone to take charge of these duties.
The ruling class is an oligarchy of merchants and aristocrats. Venice and other Italian maritime republics played a key role in fostering capitalism. Venetian citizens generally supported the system of governance. their spouse taking the title of Royal Consort. Duke and Duchess
