Character Building
For The Chronicles of Cadilon you can make any species and class of character you want using officially published 5.5 material. This includes The Players Handbook, Ravenloft, and Heroes of Faerun.
If you have never made a D&D character before, I suggest you head to D&D Beyond to make one there. The website is owned by Wizards of the Coast (the company who makes D&D) and lets you build a character for free using the Basic Rules. You can make a character in a matter of minutes there!
Once your character is done you either download it to print, play with it in digital form and share it. By default you can only share a character sheet with people in the same campaign as you, so to share it with me so I can pass it to the DMs, join my D&D Beyond Campaign here! If you would prefer, you can also send me a PDF.
Character Creation Details (By Hand)
The following are our rules and guidelines for character creation:
Stats: We are using the roll 4d6-drop the lowest stat method. D&D Beyond will do this for you! On the page for stat generation, choose Manual/Rolled, then you will get the chance to roll your stats. If your stats are too low (they add up to 71 or lower), you can reroll them.
Starting Equipment: You will be starting with the basic starting equipment packages for your class and background.
Personality Details: You need nothing more than your character sheet and a set of dice to start playing, but some players like to come into a game with more of their character's personality developed. Some people find it easier to make their backstory and personality after they have played their character for a season or two to make sure it meshes with the rest of the party. Some like it all planned out from session 1. Either way, if you need help with personality and backstory, check out Flaws, Strengths and Backstories for some inspiration!
Alignment: You cannot play as an evil character. If you choose chaotic as your alignment, you still must be the hero type and a team player - no using being Chaotic as an excuse to cause harm to others, your party, or the story.
Age: Since the apocalypse happened 325 years ago, we ask that you make characters younger than this so they do not remember The World that Was. Most people over the age of 320 died in the zombie apocalypse, so it is a very young world (well, the elves would call it young…)
Faith: People in this world are religious. Though you do not have to dedicate yourself to one god, knowing the pantheon and having a favourite will make part of your engagement in the world more fun. Check out The Gods for more details.
Lost Magic: One of the stories in The Chronicles of Cadilon is the world is starting to come back from a very long and destructive Dark Ages. Much information has been lost, and this includes magic. Some believe gods have died or are missing, there are Druidic Circles of Power that cannot be connected to, and some arcane spells that were destroyed hundreds of years ago. As such, there are some spells players cannot have their character know right away. But don’t worry, as soon as you or another group finds a scroll or spellbook with that spell on it, reconnects or sanctifies a place of power or finds a relic that restores the power of a lost or dead god, these spells will be available to everyone. Check out Lost Magic for the list of spells that are lost and unknown at this time. As the magic is found, the list will change!
