Books on Dimensions
Between you and Sting, you narrow down which of the dimensional things it seems most likely to be. There are a few (a couple that are manufactured, one that is a hypothetical state) that describe realms that echo or mirror the reality you currently live in, such as how it looked like Slandwar, just dark and empty. None of them have names, as they aren’t specifically known ones.
However, it mentions that getting in or out of any of these places are usually through an opening called a Transdimensional Nexus, or hellgates, depending on how dour you want to be. If this is natural, it’s been doing this the whole time without people really noticing, or perhaps without people ever falling in, just by luck. If it isn’t, then how the gates are opening and how anyone gets into them is dependent on how the dimension was created - which the book doesn’t go into because it doesn’t tell you how to create one.
In either case, if you find how this dimension was manufactured, you could disrupt it and therefore the entire dimension and its portal would be gone. If it was here all along, the book mentions there are some powerful spells to close a nexus, though finding it would be something as apparently it can’t be written down.
