Arc Two: Session One

General Summary

The three take their recovery time to take care of other things. Cal takes a job painting the inside of a garage, already healed up due to their fast recovery time.   Liz takes her car to Jake, her mechanic, who tells her he will need a couple weeks to get the van up to speed. She also drops in on Therese, who is distraught at going home and handling things herself with one arm and one leg still in casts. Liz offers for Therese to stay over at hers for the few weeks it will take before Therese might be able to handle being home alone.   A week goes by without Avery hearing anything from Sting, so they go to Casey to bring them up to date on the situation... and ask what they think is going on with the dagger. Casey isn't sure, finding it strange that an item used to channel power would have any sort of being in it. After the discussion, Avery heals a bruise, leaving energy behind in the dagger. The next morning, Avery and Sting have a conversation about their current situation. Sting makes a deal - helping Avery in exchange for energy - despite both knowing he was going to help either way. Avery has his dagger, after all. Nevertheless, Avery agrees.
The group and Casey decide to look into the woman who found the dog, Miss Peterson. Finding out that she is the woman who lives in the same apartment Joanna used to live in, above Sully. Cal and Liz head up to talk to her. She talks at them through a near crack in the door. Unfortunately she doesn't say much, and she eventually closes the door in their faces. With little information, they decide to investigate the house once more.   Taking a taxi, the four of them enter the house and go to examine the gallery first. With their flashlights, they look at the portraits. There are still nine of them, but the painting of Professor Lumi Basso has become completely blank. They look at each portrait, Liz taking pictures of each. Most are unknown to the group, but one is of a girl who looks like Casey and the other is Alwyn Fulton, Avery's mother. Casey passes out, Liz catching them. At that, Sting pulls himself out of the dagger. While he claims to know nothing about the house, he tells them Casey shouldn't be in it. They head back out to the front, with Sting lingering in the front doorway.   Casey rouses, dazed and lightheaded. However, they do not recall entering the house, even as Liz fills them in. They still do not remember at that and Liz suggests that they take what they have learnt now and do more research. Casey protests at not finding more and they reenter the house, deciding not to go into the gallery.   Heading past the dining room, they end up in the kitchen and the rooms adjoined to it. Liz examines the kitchen with Casey, while Cal and Avery head from what looks like a laundry room to a living room. Searching the fireplace, Cal suddenly breaks through the key's influence, which was apparently keeping their half-demonic senses from working well in the house. They notice three directions of interest and call the others to meet up.   They quickly make it through the gallery to the closest location, which is a master suite. Cal follows their senses to the bathroom, only for the hunger of the house to overcome them and, to not consume anything else, they bite down on their own arm. Liz pulls them back, as Cal attempts to clear their mind of the impulse, and they both tumble to the ground as Cal stops biting themselves.   Liz tries heading into the master bath, managing to keep herself in check. Inside the tub is a woman floating in water, who doesn't appear to have been dead for long, though definitely bloated. Despite the disfiguration of the water, Liz recognizes the person as one of the portraits in the gallery. Soon after, Sting nudges Avery to take the party back into the gallery, where they find one of the paintings is melting off the canvas. As the paint drips off the frame, down the wall, and into the carpet, a new image appears of a different person. Cal recognizes them from a grocery story on the east side of town.   After that, they follow Sting's inclination to get out of the house. When leaving through the front door, Casey finds themselves completely at a loss again - they don't remember having entered the house or anything that happened inside.
Back at Odd Jobs, the group evaluates the situation. Liz sends the pictures to Owen, with priority on the image of the body they found today. He comes back with the name In-soo Holloway, an employee of the grocery store Cal was thinking of. Cal, Avery and Sting head off to the store, while Liz takes Casey home to get more rest.
