Arc One: Session Six Report in Bygones | World Anvil

Arc One: Session Six

General Summary

Casey reports to the team that no one else has noticed an unusual amount of spiders at all (with Sting making himself scarce the moment they enter). The group plans how to kill the main tsuchigumo, hoping that will also affect the smaller spiders. Cal offers themselves up as bait, knowing the big one appears to have a grudge against them for that amazing shot in the Gulch.   Using Cal, they plan to lead the tsuchigumo to an empty and abandoned warehouse away from the bulk of the city to somehow cut off its legs and set it on fire. They prepare the items they think will best help them. Owen get Liz three incendiary bullets, while Avery can only pick up two hazmat suits from the hospital. Cal picks up an axe, dropping by their friend Savannah's to get it sharpened.   While Liz and Cal are off picking up their supplies, and Casey is searching through the books for some spells on magic, Avery attempts to contact Sting again, alone. He comes out and begins to instruct them how to make a juju bag - something to help them concentrate and use magic. When given the axe and the bullets, Avery attempts to enchant them. While they pass out, Sting says they succeeded in enchanting the weapons.
Everyone takes their places. Liz is set up with her ammo, hidden up in the rafters of the warehouse. Casey has the wheel, with Avery in the car suited up in the hazmat, while Cal walks around killing spiders. They kill small to bigger spiders, finally seeing the largest tsuchigumo arrive - watching from the side of the library. At that, Avery throws some fire at it. It isn't enough fire to do any damage, but it certainly further enrages the creature, who begins to run at them. Cal jumps in the car and suits up, while Casey speeds off toward the warehouse as the tsuchigumo closes in.   Arriving at the warehouse, Cal and Avery dive out to take cover. Shortly after, the spider arrives and leaps on top of the car, looking for Cal. Both Liz and Cal shoot. It heads in the direction of what hurt more, Liz. Clambering up the walls, it shakes the building, causing a bit of debris to fall on top of Cal. While the spider can't quite reach Liz with its teeth, it jabs a leg into the corner, pinning her against the wall. She attempts to shoot, managing to hit one of its legs.   Cal ascends up to Liz's level with great speed, having pulled out their axe and removing the leg trying to crush Liz in one. In response, the tsuchigumo spits venom at Cal, which only hits the hazmat suit. As Avery catches up and tries to stab the spider, they miss. It turns on them and Liz jumps to push Avery out of the way of the teeth. They are both badly grazed, but neither gripped in the tsuchigumo's fangs.   As they get to their feet, Cal removes yet another leg. Down to six, and one about useless with damage, the tsuchigumo is more than pissed. It grabs Cal and tries to crush them to death. (Cal regrets wearing the head piece of the hazmat suit, unable to bite.) Liz shoots the damaged leg, finally removing it. The tsuchigumo is forced to drop Cal, clambering up the wall and to the ceiling. Cal attempts to heal themselves, but instead wears themselves out completely and heals nothing.   Liz and Cal, from the crushing and venom, appear to be on their last legs. Avery focuses and tries to heal both of them. They almost can't do it, when Sting helps them. Liz can breathe again and Cal's stress damage from their failed healing has abated.   Simultaneously, other large spiders have been entering the building. Only being the size of dogs, Casey decides to take care of them with the car.   Liz changes to an incendiary bullet again and hits the spider in the abdomen. It falls from the ceiling and hits the ground, splattering all of them with its venomous blood. Cal runs up to it and brings the axe down on its head, burying it into its head. The tsuchigumo twitches and dies.   Casey gets out of the car, with supplies to clean up venom from everyone. Cal heads outside, hearing a commotion. The other larger spiders appear to vomit or express the sticky poison, until they become mere husks. Still uncertain if other spiders might come and eat the tsuchigumo's blood, Avery manages to set it on fire. It burns blue, heat beyond heat, as it burns the spider and its venom, but nothing more.
The group ends up back at Odd Jobs, cleaned and bandaged up. They discuss checking the house again, as well as Professor Basso. Taking some time to recover, they plan on tackling the house again.
