Arc One: Session One
General Summary
Elizabeth West, Avery Fulton, and Caliban meet up at Barnett's Odd Jobs at the same time. The secretary, Maud, gives them a posting about a missing dog. They head into Aurora Gulch to search and find a key. The key leads them to a lone house west of the north point of the Gulch. Entering the house, Cal discovers a laptop in a drawer, along with some papers. Avery nearly eats some dog treats and finds two small bodies under the dining room table. Liz finds claw marks in a door frame, leading to the gallery.
Paint dripping from one of the paintings, Avery recognizes the emerging image as a professor from the university. Liz looks over some of the papers Cal brought over, recognizing a symbol as one she found at the site of the last place her younger sister was seen. It being late, the three decide to leave, considering coming back the next day.
Walking back through the Gulch, they come across spider webs and a very large spider. Cal shoots it and with swarms of smaller spiders advancing, the three hunters run back to Liz's car. Cal and Liz are stuck together with some web, which refuses to go up fast with the flames of a lighter, but Cal breaks through with some Unholy Strength. They escape the Gulch.
At their apartment, Cal scrubs off the webbing and gets into the laptop. When they hook up the hard drive, they find that most of it is empty, but they do find an email that is attached to a flower shop.
Liz goes home to clean up, sending a picture of the letter Cal found to Casey. Despite the time, Casey soon answers, and she informs them about the house. Not immediately forthcoming, Casey says they need to talk and not to return to the house (admitting to not finding such things the last time they were there). With an early morning appointment to talk about it further, Liz goes back through the information about her sister's disappearance.
When Avery steps into their apartment, one of their roommates is awake still. Brendan makes them tea, while Avery goes to look up the professor in the portrait. They discover the name Lumi Basso, a professor of mathematics.
