"Guardian Unbinding"

The book starts off with Petra describing a Pillar of Power. They are objects that can vary in appearance, but they radiate the same energy of complete and heavy magic. Petra goes on for pages about this, and how her Guardian has always warned her against doing anything with such a Pillar. Tapping into one might give one power, but it’s always at a cost. Pillars of Power are not natural, according to Petra’s Guardian. And when Petra got a call for help from a friend who had bound his own Guardian to one, she assisted for the sake of the Guardian more than her friend.
Petra goes through how she and her Guardian questioned her friend about what he had done. You aren’t sure how applicable this binding ritual would be to bodies, as it seems very specific to something that already has a lot of power emanating from it, something a corpse would not.
However, it seems though Petra’s friend had bound his Guardian to the Pillar because the Guardian had become weak through injury. While bound, it was impossible to determine whether the Guardian had been helped or not through this process.
Avery does learn more about the binding of energies though, something that with further study they might manage to do themselves, and then with even more study and practice, they might be able to reverse engineer.
