Buena Vista City Government

City Council

The City of Buena Vista is largely run by a mayor and city council. Mayor Jay Wright has served multiple terms despite allegations of questionable campaign funding. He has an agenda of attracting large tech companies to Buena Vista, allegedly for the sake of increasing jobs in the city, but in reality has done little to address income inequality among the citizens. The council's policies have led to an increase in high rent blight, leaving some areas of the city thinly inhabited. Notably, a member of the city council named Elsa Jansen was recently elected against expectations, hoping to use the position to remedy the trend as well as push for redrawing gerrymandered district lines.

Police

Buena Vista's police are known for being corrupt and unprofessional, despite receiving generous funding. Most of the funding tends to go toward equipment, rather than training and internal investigations. The chief of police, Charles Lyndon has resisted reforms citing how dangerous the city is, despite police work being a comparatively safe job in Buena Vista.

Courts

Buena Vista's court system has been under a lot of public scrutiny for having an higher rate of plea bargaining than other cities its size. It is frequently alleged that police corruption plays a factor in interrogations and prosecutorial misconduct. Judge Cyrus Sherman has faced various scandals over his career, but has so far stayed on top.
