Venri

Lord Venri

"A column of obscuring shadows covered the little body and the newly emerged energy. When they receded the body was gone, and the energy had transformed. Standing there was a young man with dark hair and a finely chiseled face. And while he looked fully formed, we could see through him, if only barely. He was made up of energy, but unlike the Aetheri, he was fully fixed in form. Unlike the Netheri he was intangible.   ‘Mother,’ he said to Dyris, speaking as well as any of the Netheri.   ‘His name is Venri,’ Dyris said, her voice without emotion. The panic and anguish had faded away, leaving her affect dulled, her body still leaning limply against Gryan. Venri bowed his head, in acceptance of his name."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Body Features

His skin is white and his hair is black.

Facial Features

Clean shaven face, youthful features. Silver eyes.

Identifying Characteristics

Elongated eyeteeth. Red sheen on his eyes.

Physical quirks

He moves with incredible grace and quiet. He can also stay very still for long periods of time. If he doesn't think about it, he can easily startle others by 'appearing' beside them suddenly.

Special abilities

Possesses superhuman strength, speed, and agility. Can blend in with the shadows, almost to the point of being invisible. Can turn other people into Veneeri by having them ingest his blood.

Apparel & Accessories

He generally wears very muted colors, and chooses clothes that he can move easily in. He's not a fancy dresser, preferring the practical over the lavish. He also chooses clothes that cover him very well, more because of his sensitive skin than because of a sense of modesty. As the lord of the Veneeri, he wears an unadorned, black-iron circlet.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Venri was the first mortal child born, a product of the rape of Dyris by the God of Greed, Eyni. Because the Gods had never encountered a mortal child before, they didn't know how to care for one, and Venri died shortly after being born. His death introduced Mynoris to her calling, and he was the first occupant in her realm.   As the realm started to fill up with people who had lived full lives, Venri became restless, and eventually broke through the barrier between the living and the dead. This turned him into a vampiric being, later called the Veneeri after him. Knowing very little of his condition, he blundered around for a bit, eventually turning a young woman named Ellra into a Veneeri like himself. Eventually she left him.   Later he fell in love with a woman named Miora. Ellra was still angry at him for what he did to her, so she killed Miora out of spite. Ellra then came after Venri, but Miora broke out of the realm of the Dead to warn him; this turned her into a ghost. Venri then fought with Ellra, eventually killing her. The murder of Miora was the first murder among mortals, and it made the Gods realized they needed a stricter system of judgement for the mortals. This event triggered the Gods Laws and the splitting of the Realm of the Dead. It also prompted the creation of a realm for Venri: Venerisa. He became the ruler of this realm, where he lives with Miora, who could not go back to the realm of the dead.

Gender Identity

Venri has always been referred to in the masculine, and being biologically male, he never had any reason to question it since there wasn't enough of a social atmosphere around him to define what being male meant.

Sexuality

Venri has left his sexuality mostly unexplored. While he's definitely leaned towards women, he only really had two relationships, both of which ended in the unfortunate woman dying...but not staying dead. Since he was a baby when he died normally, it never came up. By the time he had a flesh body, it didn't follow all the rules of a mortal body. He fell in love, and might have eventually consummated that love, but Miora was killed before he could do so. As a spirit she didn't have a form with which to engage in sexual relations with, and Venri was more interested in being faithful than in further exploring the question of sexuality.

Education

Venri's early education was taught to him by Mynoris in the Realm of the Dead. He learned more practical things when he broke out of the realm of the Dead and became a creature of flesh and blood. He's very good at stealth, tracking, and feats of strength, but is a little weak in diplomacy and dealing with people in general.

Employment

Venri is currently the Lord of Venerisa.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Perhaps the most noteworthy thing that Venri has done is breaking the barrier between the realm of the living and the dead, and becoming the first of the Veneeri. He only created one Veneeri himself, but that was enough to start a whole race of them.   The other thing he achieved was getting a realm granted to him by the Gods as a place for his people to go and be safe.

Failures & Embarrassments

Venri was ashamed of his early lack of self-control. When he was just learning about being a solid being, and learning to cope with the blood lust, he killed several innocent people.   Venri feels a deep shame for accidentally turning Ellra, who then became the person to kill his beloved, as well as the one who propagated most of the other Veneeri, many of whom were a scourge on mortals due to their blood lust.

Mental Trauma

Venri never felt completely comfortable with his mother, who was always a little cold and stand-offish with him. This was because of her own traumas, but it was still very hard on him.   Venri was also slightly traumatized by the accidental turning of Ellra into a Veneeri.   He was very distressed over the death of Miora, and feels a lot of guilt that she gave up her place in the realm of the Dead to warn him of his own imminent death.

Intellectual Characteristics

Venri is fairly smart, and pretty good at predicting what people will do. He has a great deal of curiosity about the world around him, and indulges in this whenever possible. He has spent a lot of time alone, and used that time to ponder many things. While his intellect may be above average, his formal schooling is almost non-existent. He learns mostly by observation, and makes the most of what he observes.

Morality & Philosophy

Venri doesn't enjoy killing, but it doesn't bother him as much as how or why he kills. Killing because he was sloppy, or because he was angry is shameful to him, but he's more than willing to kill to protect someone, or for vengeance. This is for two reasons. First, his mother is the Goddess of Passage and collects the souls of the dead. His grandmother is the Goddess of Death, and he spent a long time in her realm. So, to him, death isn't a scary thing, and he knows it's just a part of life. Second, he is a predator, and his only memories of being 'alive' are as a predator. He was never socialized like most mortals.   That being said, he won't kill children, a moral imperative he got from Mynoris. He also finds any sort of torture or willful inflicting of suffering on living being to be distasteful.   He strongly believes in the power of reason, and seeks to follow a path of rationality, mostly because he's seen how emotions can make people do things that cannot be undone. But he doesn't disparage emotions, or try to hide his own. He just strives to be aware of them so that he can try to master them, rather than become a slave to them.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Originally his motivation was simply to explore the world, explore what it meant to have a body of flesh. Then his motivation was to seek justice and retribution for Miora against Ellra. Once this was tended to, his focus switched to making his realm habitable for his people. He's a strong believer in justice and hopes to promote that in his land.

Social

Family Ties

  • Parents: Dyris (Passage), Eyni (Greed)
  • Spouse: Miora (unofficially)
    • Children: Ellra (as a Veneeri)

Religious Views

Venri doesn't worship Dyris or Mynoris the way other mortals do because of his close connection with them. However, he keeps a shrine to both of them in his castle. He considers himself a supporter of both those faiths, as well as the faith of Gryan, his maternal grandfather. He doesn't worship death as a preferred state of being; rather he respects it as a part of life.

Social Aptitude

Venri is overly serious, so when discussing important matters, he can be a good leader and people will often listen to what he has to say. However, when it comes to casual socializing, he is often at a loss. While he isn't shy, he's doesn't converse just for the sake of conversation. If he speaks, it's because he has something pertinent to say. He's confident in his own abilities, but he's humble in that he doesn't believe he stands on a moral high-ground, or is any more worthy than anyone else.

Mannerisms

Venri is not very expressive, either with body language or his face.

Wealth & Financial state

Venri doesn't keep personal wealth. All of his treasure is linked with his position as ruler. He doesn't have the need for a lot of creature comforts, and generally keeps it to hire foreign artisans or other such individuals that are needed to help refine the needs of his kingdom. Anything he owns personally has a use, such as clothing or his bed. That being said, the position of his kingdom is between mountains, and likely there are untapped resources beneath his land, if he ever chose to unearth them.
