Westseaxna Rīċe, anglicized as the Kingdom of West Saxons and colloquially known as "Wessex", is a Saxon kingdom in southeastern Britain.
Previously a county of Logres known as Hampshire which consisted of the holdings of the Earl of Hampshire, it was conquered by Cyning Cerdic of Wessex in 496. In 497, it expanded to include the Isle of Wight. Formerly the naval capital of Logres, Wessex contains many ports.
