Balin-Balin

Balin-Balin was a renowned forgemaster in his time not only for great advancements in forging but for his restraint when doing so. He would always pick function over style, made sure to use any and all metal and save anything left over. In a grand competition to create the crown of his hold many showed extravagant and exuberant creations full of shiny details and gems. Balin instead created an imposing crown of sheer iron. His reasoning being that the metal was abundant and an iron crown looked more imposing, thus it would be more effective. He also stated that in the time it took the others to create his crown he created his and made a hundred pickaxes for a total cost far below the other crowns. The king respected this practicality and as a sign to not fall into exuberance the iron crown became a core relic of the hold. After his death Balin would be remembered and his lessons taught by many dwarven smiths eventually moving him into myth and being worshiped as a God.
