Speckled Zebra Building / Landmark in BREACH | World Anvil

Speckled Zebra

The favorite (and only) hangout of the people at the BREACH  "Conestoga" base in Nebraska. It is absolutely untrue that it is part of a transdimensional -- even trans-campaign and rules system -- network of "pleasure palaces" run by a mysterious "Madame Wu".

Purpose / Function

To get drunk, brawl, and try to hook up with someone, professional or otherwise.

Design

About 110 feet by 55 feet. Upper floor w/VIP lounge and, ahem, "private dance" rooms is about half this size. Basement is poured concrete with a few load-bearing columns.

Entries

Main door: Typical wooden door, reinforced with metal plates and a grill over the window, which is made of bullet-resistant glass.   Office door: Even more secure than the main door, this leads to the Manager's Office, a secret sanctum none but the Manager have access to. It's where the safe is, of course.   Storage: A trap door behind the bar goes to the cellar, where beer, snacks, and other essentials are stored.   Dressing room: There's a door to the back section where the entertainers rest or prep between sets. It's reinforced, and usually guarded by a suitably scary bouncer.   Upstairs: Access to the VIP lounge. What goes on there doesn't get out.

Sensory & Appearance

Stale smoke, sweat, and beer. You do not want to look at this place in UV light. Or bright light, really. Fortunately, all the windows are painted over, and the lights are dim, except for spotlights on the stage. The entertainers get their preferred music when performing; if no one's up, there's an old jukebox in one corner that still works.

Denizens

The Manager: Only known as a tall, heavily-built man in a trenchcoat, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat pulled low over his face. Rarely seen outside his office, even by staff. Rumors of his past grow more extreme with each re-telling. Customers will, generally, see him for a minute as he has a whispered conversation with a bartender, then returns to his office. Everyone has stories of the time he took down a biker gang causing trouble, or maybe it was skinheads, or possibly caveman who slipped through a breach pre-stabilizer, but no one's ever seen any of these, just heard about it from people who knew a guy who was there.   The Entertainers: For a long time, they were mostly local women, but since the BREACH base opened, it's become more mixed, as this has become the de facto place to go for all personnel, mostly by process of elimination. The Zebra has a good reputation: Pay is fair, the workers keep 90% of their tips (the other 10% goes to the waitstaff and the bouncers), and there's a zero tolerance policy for harassment.   The Staff: There's a bartender, and 2-3 waitpersons, who may also be entertainers depending on the crowd and who else turned up. One full-time bouncer, but the bartender can handle himself in a fight, if needed.   The Owner: No one knows. People usually assume the Manager is the owner, but if anyone asks, he'll grunt and shake his head 'no'.
Show spoiler
It is not true the owner is a woman from a nexus between multiverses. That would be ridiculous.
