Lightning Crystals in BREACH | World Anvil

Lightning Crystals

"Ever cheap syndicated 80s and 90's sci-fi show had a planet that looked like this, and the redshirt ended up getting zapped in the opening teaser. So, nope. Not gonna do it.
— Bert Chen, BREACH First-In Agent
The breach revealed a world of bright crystalline outcroppings, from about 2 to 20 feet tall, jutting at odd angles from teal sand and deep green gravel. The first quick checks from a drone showed a breatheable atmosphere, normal gravity, temperate, and pressure. The team was about to head in when lightning crackled between dozens of the crystals, frying the drone and nearly shorting the breach stabilizer. After it died down, the phenomenon kept repeating, just barely visible through the breach, at seemingly random intervals. Observation continued for an hour, but no pattern was discerned. Anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes might pass between discharges. As interesting -- and possibly exploitable -- as the phenomenon was, and despite, as always, the possibility there could be far more to this world just out of view, BREACH reluctantly added the frequency to the "For Future Study" file, otherwise known as "File 13".
