Dinanthropoides Species in BREACH | World Anvil

Dinanthropoides

Man's Big Hairy Cousins

Dianthropoides is the genus name given to various species of large humanoid that have been encountered on parallel worlds, which resemble the "ape men" of human myth and folklore. The "Sasquatch", or Dianthropoides Magnipus, is native to temperate rainforests, while the "Yeti", or Dianthropoides Nivalis, prefers colder mountains.   It is often postulated that these species contain breachers among them, and often travel through natural breaches, possibly unaware. Despite the huge spike in Fortean phenomenon since 2010, sightings remain sparse, and hard evidence for their presence on Baseline is still to be produced. Given that the presence of everything from passenger pigeons to dinosaurs has been verifiably shown, the difficulty in finding a "baseline Bigfoot" must be embarrassing for cryptozoologists.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid, usually 7-8 feet tall, bipedal, and hirsute. It is uncertain if larger and smaller specimens sighted are simply unusual members of the same species, or represent related species.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Magnipus is generally omnivorous, relying on leaves, roots, berries, and fish. Nivalis tends to be more carnivorous, though not exclusively, and preys mostly on mountain herbivores such as goat-like animals.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Both species seem to have very keen sight and hearing. Experienced breach teams who believed themselves masters of stealth have been spotted. Claims that this is psionic, rather than physical, are not verified. "Awakened" psionics are deemed too important for other purposes to send on monster hunts.
