An old world like Virthys has its share of forgotten gods. With no followers left, the gods lost their influence and power in the world. But when a direct gateway to their realms opened up, it was a chance for them to return.

After the end of the war, sages studied the dimensional tear. It wasn't just a conduit to one divine realm - but to all of them. And it worked both ways. Not only did this lead to repeated invasions by creatures of the Outer Planes. In the year 3192, the ancient dragon god Zathruax barged through the gate, roaming Virthys' sky in his gargantuan physical form.   He might have been weak at the moment of his arrival. But watching a dragon god fly over the sky does a lot to make people believe in that god. And this belief fueled his strength.   Within weeks, Zathruax was an established power in Virthys again. But instead of returning to his divine realm, he chose the mountains of Amalar as his home in this world. And he attracted followers - both humanoid and dragonkind.   Other forgotten gods followed Zathruax' example (some of them more subtly, though), and within just two years, more than twenty deities had established their influence over Virthys again. But only two others, the dragon god Myrzakliaz and the Ooze goddess Vrashn, stayed physically in this world.
