The aftermath of the great war, the return of the old gods and the repeated invasions of creatures from the Outer Planes left Virthys in a desolate state. The council of gods gathered, and they made a fatal decision.

When the return of the old gods and the repeated invasions of demons, angels and other planar creatures had become an established reality, many mortal races were struggling for survival. Out of mercy, or simply because they felt their power dwindling, the gods gathered for a council.   After days of discussions, they made the decision to close the dimensional tear. As it led to all Outer Planes, this was only possible if enough of the divine beings worked together.   Some of the gods, especially those who physically lived in Virthys now, rejected the idea. But the council decided, and these gods were told to return to their own realms.   The only problem: Two of them didn't.
