The Shadowblood Urumi is an infamous weapon used by the elite warriors of this elven race. The whip sword has several blades made from a sinister shadow material. These are intangible and therefore harmless, until an attuned wielder activates the sword with a telepathic command as a free action. The blades then become solid, moving on their own like living tentacles. It stays like that until mentally deactivated by an attuned owner.
Every successful attack with a Shadowblood Urumi hits the target with several blades, inflicting 3d4 + 3 necrotic damage. A 19-20 on an attack roll counts as a critical hit, as more of the shadow blades slash through the target.
If used by an unattuned person, every failed attack instead hits the wielder as the shadow blades move uncontrollably like angered snakes.

Davrius knew he could take on the Shadowblood soldier. He had fought worse opponents - all he needed was a weapon. And his foolish captor left his magical whip sword on the table - still activated. Davrius grabbed the weapon, and waited for the door to open.
When he attacked, the blades whirled through the air. The last thing he heard was the elf’s laughter as the weapon cut deep into Davrius’ own flesh, and everything went black...
