Finding your character arc in Braythe: Shattered Realities | World Anvil

Finding your character arc

The overall theme for a campaign in Braythe is one of personal growth. Everyone is a survivor - but the goal is to get from surviving to thriving. From healing emotional wounds and overcoming fears to building a stable life for yourself, the tales of Braythe are meant to be tales of hope.   With that in mind, you can help your game master develop their campaign by defining how you want your character to evolve and grow. Maybe your character just wants to overcome a single flaw. Or you want to completely reinvent your character as they overcome past experiences and truly find themselves. A classic redemption arc from (real or perceived) guilt to forgiveness is another option.   How and when such a character development plays out in a campaign depends on your game master's plans, of course. It's up to them how they weave your character plans into their overall storyline. Keep in mind this might turn out very differently from what you imagined. Neither of you are writing a novel, you are playing a game of cooperative storytelling. Give your GM the necessary freedom to write their own campaign. But if you feel that something goes into an entirely wrong direction for your character, talk with your game master to find a solution you are both happy with.

How to find a starting point for a character arc

Your background offers a variety of traits and flaws that define your player character - or at least, how they start out. A character arc might involve growing out of a certain flaw, or you might have the goal of completely changing traits or ideals. Such a change doesn't influence abilities and background features of your character: They learned what they learned, and they don't lose these strengths just because they grow. But they might become less easy to manipulate, or gain emotional resilience, or simply turn out to become a more rounded, healthy or empathetic person.
