Gnomes

Gnomes are a small race, and short-lived. They are extremely clever with machines and contraptions, constantly inventing and improving all things mechanical (and electrical). They are also known for experimenting with magic, especially their still-imperfect methods of bottling spells for later use.
An extremely fertile race, Gnomes would have long since covered the planet if it weren't for their propensity to die in accidents, usually relating to their experiments in magic and engineering. Occasionally a practical joke will go awry, but rarely do these pranks result in fatalities.
