Barrid Dust
The common Barrid Beetle is a well known pest in the forest, ruining the lumber for many a logger. Even worse is when they get a hold of a very prized tree: a majestic Spiritwood. Should they begin consuming the wood, they start to change color in relation to the variety of sap the spiritwood produces. However, if a clever trap is made, the beetles can be captured, ground, and dried until they form a fine dust. This red, blue, or green dust is a valuable component to alchemists and spellcasters the world over, as the metabolism of the magical wood inside the beetles somehow intensified the effects.
Manufacturing process
Typically, one must try to trap the ravenous beetles by luring them with a small, fresh log of spiritwood. It must have the same sap coloration as the tree they are currently infesting or the beetles will become aggressive to other animals in the vicinity.
After trapped by a very fine net, typically, they are crushed on the spot. Then, the net and all of their guts are brought to a mill, where they are processed further. After a day or two left to dry in the sun, they are crushed one final time until a fine powder is made. Then the process is complete.
