Ferrous Hegemony

There are many nations in Bone-World, but none quite like the Ferrous Hegemony. Nation fo cyborgs, it covers large part of Australia, it's actual population lives only in two settlements, due to slow population growth rate. Entire tribes and towns can rise without knowledge of the Hegemony surrounding them. Once they gain it's attention, however, they can either peacefully join and benefit from it's technologies for a small price of independence, or fight a futile battle against soldiers armed with assault rifles, riding tanks or flying jet fighters.

Structure

Hegemony is ruled by oligarchical government, called Council of Investors. This council holds twenty members, each being voted after death of previous councilor (either by natural cause, or if the said councilor has been executed.) Council holds control over every branch of state, from jurisdiction, to military. Nothing is out of reach for councilor, except citizen's personal belongings. This creates a balance between state and megacorporations, as corporations are creating healthy market and growing economy, while the Council protects corporations themselves from both external and itnernal threats.

Public Agenda

What is publicly known, is that the Hegemony tries to ensure survival of both cybernoids and humans. This can be only achieved by subjugating other human nations, while also exterminating bionoids from The Hive, as only absolute control over Bone-World can revive the golden age such as was the Light-World.

Assets

The Hegemony has standing army of 10 500 soldiers, supported by 1000 MBTs, 153 SPDs, 5000 LUVs, 1070 APCs, 879 AFVs. Aerial combat is provaded by 100 advanced jet fighters. This standing army can be briefly expanded with 3271 mercenaries from various corporations. Naval capacities are focused mainly on defending the Rainbow river with navy made out of 20 small Frigattes and 3 large Battleships. When it comes to fortifications, the Steel City is protected by four massive towers, located on the edge of the Iron Desert. These towers are heavily fortified, with enough heavy weapons to repel smaller army.

History

Ferrous Hegemony started long before it's official declaration, as nothing more, than a group of survivors, who shared common custom of using cybernetic enhancements. This group settled in ruins of the ancient city, renaming it Steel City. From here, the race of Cybernoids was born and alongside their growing ambition and wealth, new state, founded in 7103 after the estabilishment of Camp Alpha. After it's founding, the Hegemony found itself surrounded by growing new nations. First diplomatic relations were estabilished with the City of Rubidos, a city founded in the ruins of mountain-factory complex, similiary as the Steel City. This, alongside with similiar social and technological levels allowed flourishing alliance, which brought trade, cultural and even technological exchange The policy of positive relationship continued, when the Klavie Yunion presented itself, resembling a crude version of the Hegemony. Despite their neutrality and trade, neither Hegemony, nor the Yunion trust each other. Hostilities are, however, set aside, as the Conclave of Tjurunga presented itself as sworn enemy of the Hegemony, who attempted to conquer the green lands of Tjurunga, to secure one of the last two green areas on the continent. A war erupted around 7124, which started to drag, as the Tjurungans surprised the Hegemony with technological levels, which allowed them to defend themselves, despite it's inferiority. War later ended in 7129, after five yeras, as bionoid emerged in vast numbers from their living mountain, which they named The Hive, allying themselves with the Coalition. Due to massive logistical burden, which the war on two fronts represented, Hegemony abandoned it's plans of conquer and a cold war era begun.

Demography and Population

Ferrous hegemony covers most of the northern territories of Australia, with only Tjurunga being out of it's reach in this region. As the need for food was rapidly growing, the Hegemony was forced to abandon it's previous policy of only inhabiting the Steel City, it's capital, and estabilished Camp Alpha on the Fringe, the two being connected via the Rainbow River. As the only two settlements of the Hegemony at current point, the Steel City has population of 63 130 citizens, while the Camp Alpha has only 4000. These numbers are growing only very slowly. While birth rate is relatively higher, than death rate, mortality of newborns is so high, that growth of population is significantly slowed down.

Military

Ferrous military is small, but elite group of both well trained and equipped, with the oldest commanders having the experience of the entire last century worth of fights.

Technological Level

Technology and science are what keeps otherwise small nation to hold the position of major power. In terms of materials, steel and plastics are major components for most of the Ferrous technology. This technology consists mostly of: cybernetics, metallurgy, robotics, electronics, information technologies, chemistry and heavy industry. Complex robots, tanks, artificial limbs, chemical weapons and advanced computers are only fraction of technology possesed by the Hegemony, with new technologies being discovered or re-discovered at increadible speed.

Religion

Hegemony supports a number of religion, mostly those from Light-World. These include: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Judaism. None of them is officially supported by state in form of money, or tax freedoms, but at the same time, there is no oppression present. Smaller religions include Voodoo, various tribal faiths and the Obliteration of Abomination, which is a relatively new and small religion, which teaches, that usage of cybernetics is a sin. It's members have all of their enhancements taken out, including their blood filters, forcing them to live in completely sterile underground bunkers. Due to being viewed as concerning, this religion is tolerated, but highly discouraged.

Foreign Relations

Ferrous Hegemony is part of complicated relations with other four powers in the region. City of Rubidos is considered it's only true ally, as both factions are technologically advanced and have only small numbers in regards with population. Klavie Yunion is mostly neutral towards the Hegemony, with trade happening occasionally. But it's two neighbours, Coalition of Tjurunga and The Hive are extremely towards against the Hegemony, viewing it as a threat, uniting in war effort to conquer it.

Agriculture & Industry

Industry is what keeps the Hegemony running. Giant complexes of factories cover most of the Steel City, with dozens of extractors collecting the iron dust from surrounding desert, horrifying outsiders, who often mistaken them for guarding beasts. With the supply of home-made steel and traded goods, everything is made in the Steel City. Whatever one might need, there is someone who has factory to make it. Agriculture, on the other hand, makes up only small part of the Ferrous economy. Crops are mostly traded from other nations, or delivered from the Camp Alpha. In recents years, number of small, underground farms grew, in an attempt, to make the Hegemony self-sufficient.

Trade & Transport

The Hegemony trades with it's two neighbours, the City of Rubidos and the Klavie Yunion. Yunion trades fish and oil in exchange for scrap metal, while Rubidos exchanges it's ores and crops in exchange for advanced technology. These trades are made possible due to all of these nations having atleast some form of transport. Yunion convoys have to undergo long, exhausting and dangerous journey through the Bones of the Old World, using specially manufactured "boats". either propelled via sails, or tamed animals. Meanwhile, trade route between Rubidos and the Steel City is much shorter and is almot entirely done by ships, thanks to the presence of the Rainbow River. The Hegemony itself uses convoys comprised of armoured carriers, with tracks reminiscent of tanks. These vehicles utilize artificial ammonia as their fuel, while ships traveling to Rubidos are propelled thanks to small nuclear reactions, which give them advantage over the diesel-fueled Rubidosian navy.

Education

Every single cybernoid is educated atleast until they reach the age of twenty years, to assure, that all members of the population achieve enough education to be experts in their field of application. This system is divided into three levels:
  1. Basic School: First Nine yeras of education, that gives children basic knowledge, like writing, reading, math Primary Schools: These schools are chosen by every adolescent on the individual basis, each being specialized for certain task. Basics of jobs are teached here, supplemented by practical education, so that future workers can already do atleast simple work tasks Advanced schools: First two years of these schools are free and required by every young adult to be completed. Rest is being taxed, so students must spend atleast some time working in their chosen fields of application. Advanced schools, as the name implies, teach advanced knowledge required for a worker, if he wants to climb the corporate ladder. Higher knowledge of the work process is combined with skills such as leadership, organization or time or communication and social skills.

Infrastructure

At it's core, the Hegemony owns much of it's success to the infrastructure of it's capitol, with miles of highways, rails and underground tunnels, which allow transport of workers and materials from massive complex of factories, refineries and other facilities. Steel City also has it's own airport, thanks to which it can quickly respond to attacks, or use it for landings and take-offs of transport planes. Camp Alpha's infrastructure is very provisional at this point, with it's roads being little more, than dust and dirt compressed, with only small airport for few planes. It's main infrastructure is in form of wood mills, that manufacture wood products for the Steel City.
