Hoarstone

In this forsaken place, rock grows on things like a morning's frost.

Cold winds blowing through certain regions of the Land of the Dead bring more than just a chill with them. Hoarstone can form on any windward surface under certain conditions, growing and spreading like ice crystals across a pond's surface. If not periodically scraped off, continued build-up of hoarstone can eventually Petrify a Soul, permanently encasing them in hard rock until they appear as mere statues. Gorgon often live in regions that experience hoarstone, leading to the mistaken belief that it is the Gorgons that are responsible for turning Souls to stone.

Khalix

This form of hoarstone forms as a soft, white, chalky powder. It can be frequently mistaken as actual hoarfrost, which makes this form deceptively dangerous. Although it is soft and easy to remove, if a Soul ignores this building up on them they can swiftly find themselves in a lot of trouble.

Onyx

This form of hoarstone forms as hard, rounded pebbles that display many parallel bands of colour. Onyx hoarstone can be quite pretty, but it is hard and difficult to pry off of any surface it forms on.

Opsidianos

This form of hoarstone forms as sharp, jagged fragments of black volcanic glass. It forms in needle-like formations and razor edged sheets, and while it is brittle it is more than capable of slicing through skin and fabric alike, making removal especially painful.

Krustallos

This form of hoarstone forms as small polyhedral beads of hard, clear crystal. Although typically clear, these crystals can also form with translucent purple, pale yellow or brown, pink, blue, milky white, or smoky black colourations. Despite how pretty these minor gemstones are, allowing growth to continue unimpeded is just as deadly as other forms of hoarstone.
