War of the Necrochanglings: The Chase

The Conflict

Prelude

After the initial Necrochangling War has ended in 6893, the winning parties involved (The Blomarian Cult Extermination Brotherhood, the Briarhood of the Botanical Deities and the Queen's Guard) were puzzled as to where the attacks came from. They started searching for the orchestrator of the attack, motivated by the fact that attacks were still sporadically happening.

Deployment

The war took a huge amount of resources out of the winning parties, and especially the Queen's Guard. Thus, it was agreed upon that the Brotherhood started gathering intel on the location of the Cult leader.

However, there were still attacks happening. Several Brotherhood members were dispatched to several corners of the land to protect their outposts. On top of that, Circana regularly suffered guerilla attacks from the Cult, with some war veteran students suddenly Changing into evil beasts, courtesy of the Necrochanging Disease, that corrupted their minds and made them undead thralls. So, Queen's Guards and Druids from the Briarhood were constantly on their guard.

The Engagement

There were several great battles throughout Budston during the search for the cult leader. In particular, the fights in the east were memorable. Helmskeep, a large outpost that previously was a Dwarven keep got besieged by Necrochanglings. It was reported that several of the lycanthropic Necrochanglings, who previously ravaged Forlage, also took part in this siege. The first reported victory of the Necrochanglings, the Brotherhood got expelled from the keep and the sigil circle got destroyed, barring the Brotherhood from using Helmskeep as an outpost.

The Necrochanglings also tried to take over Budtown once again, but a strange force coming from the Stansequoia made them weaker and they were defeated by the local forces.

Finally, the leader was located. Through several tests of a strain of Necrochanging Disease, the Brotherhood found the location of the Cult Leader: the island of Shimmer. The strain included several ingredients that only came from that island. A small force of Brotherhood members got dispatched there, including one of the members that helped defend Budtown.

They located Herbert West and confronted him. After monologuing about his perfect disease and vision for the world, he attacked. The battle lasted several hours and it looked like anyone could win. Then, the warrior from Budtown unleashed his fury and landed a devastating blow on Herbert, knocking him unconscious. This gave the Brotherhood Members time to locate the portal that sent Herbert into Blomaria in the first place. They activated it and sent him back, ending the Necrochangling War after five years.

Outcome

The war was finally over, and the forces of good emerged victorious. But sadly, the Brotherhood members who defeated Herbert West were still cursed by the Necrochanging Disease, that was lingering in the chambers.

Aftermath

The country of Budston could finally take a deep breath, but there was not much time to rest. There were still Necrochanglings on the loose, undercover and waiting for a chance to strike. The forces of good would have to search out these members and destroy them. Helmskeep has also still not been retaken by the Brotherhood, partially because of the low strength of the Brotherhood that is able to.
