History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

Ever since mortals of Blomaria found out about the enormous Stansequoia, they realized the religious importance of the Tree and started to revere it. The leaves of the Stansequoia were said to carry souls to the afterlife, the roots were rumored to burrow into the deepest point of the world.   The bark was thus seen as a physical manifestation of strength, the material that kept the Tree strong and standing for this long. Many daring zealots have tried to cut bark from the Tree in order to use it in coming-of-age rituals and sacrifices, but they were all prevented from doing so in a terrifying manner.   As this pattern continued, the people of Kibitann and especially Budston understood the sacrilege that cutting bark meant, and left it alone. In time, the bark of the Stansequoia became known as a gift from the Deities, something that only the most devoted of priests and clerics would receive.   Receiving a piece of bark from the Tree means that the Deities have deemed you worthy of their attention, and your life will become blessed from that moment on as long as you hold the bark.
