The Kingdom of Westmark

Westmark is land of dark, briar-filled woods, gray overcast skies, and black lakes and rivers. At night, howls and shrieks resonate through the woods as werewolves, or worse, go about their wicked business.   The land is cursed. The dead walk. The scourge of lycanthropy is everywhere. It spreads like a disease among the population. Locals dread the woods and will not venture into them unless absolutely necessary. They shut themselves in their homes at night and remain as quiet as possible, wary of attracting the attention of whatever lurks outside.   King Ultur II attempts to fight back. He formed the Red Riders, a militia outfitted with silver weapons, trained to hunt down and destroy lycanthropes. They have had limited success, but have since been ordered to include battling the rising undead scourge and, as such, are spread very thin.   Meanwhile, the King barricades himself inside of Wightbane Keep within the capital city of Sternhelm. He has no Queen and no heirs.
