The Cult of the Tokrim
While the Tokrim recognise that their gods exist, and deal with them when they must, they have a more familiar relationship with the spirits of the world around them. Usually representing the primal nature of some animal or other creature from their surroundings some tribes dedicate themselves to a particular spirit, others are more general in their alliances.
Often individuals undergoing a vision quest as they come of age will find themselves choosing (or being chosen by) a particular spirit animal whose character complements or challenges their own.
Some common spirits are:
Hawk - courageous and majestic, it shows rulership and far-sightedness, predatory courage and strength Hare - swift and agile, a creature of rapid movement and evasion Snake - a stealthy and dangerous creature, capable of avoiding notice and striking by surprise Ox - strong and immovable, a creature who can stand fast against opposition and break down obstacles Ibis- wise and contemplative, a creature who knows much lore and many secrets Monkey - light hearted and cunning, this creature can sing and dance, amuse and charm and trick others Fox - a crafty trickster able to creep into places and take things that belong to others Scorpion - a dangerous and unforgiving killer, unloved but respected
