Titles of Nobility, Religious Figures, Knights, and Commoners
Below is a list of titles ranked from highest to lowest, with their generic forms of address. These addresses are generic and may vary based on individual leaders. Specific forms of address can often be learned through observation, attendants, or a Knowledge (nobility and royalty) check.Noble Titles
- Emperor/Empress, Overking/Overqueen: Your Imperial Majesty
- King/Queen: Your Majesty
- Prince/Princess: Your Highness or Your Noble Grace
- Duke/Duchess: Your Grace
- Margrave, Marquis/Marchioness, Marquise: Your Nobleness, or Your Nobility
- Earl, Count/Countess, Graf, Plar: Your Eminence
- Viscount/Viscountess: Your Noble Lordship/Ladyship
- Baron/Baroness: Your Prominence
- Lord Mayor: Your Lordship/Your Ladyship
Sons and daughters of the various nobles that do not have titles in their own right, as well as the elvish nobles, are referred to as Lord or Lady respectively.
Religious Titles
- Archcleric, Matriarch/Patriarch: Your Royal Highness
- Cleric, Priest: Mother/Father
Knightly Titles
- Knight Commander: Most Honorable Sir/Lady
- Knight Banneret: Right Honorable Sir/Lady
- Knight/Lady Champion: Most Worthy Sir/Lady
- Knight/Lady Bachelor: Worthy Sir/Lady
- Knight/Lady: Sir/My Lady
Commoner Titles
- Elder: Honorable Master/Mistress
- Gentleman/Gentlewoman: Master/Mistress
- Esquire: Squire
- Yeoman: Socman/Socwoman
Descriptions of Knightly Ranks
- Knight/Lady: This is the rank given to a knight who was just inducted into an order. Such a knight may command a troop or platoon in a standing army, but the troops belong to the noble sponsor.
- Knight/Lady Champion: A Knight Bachelor who shows exceptional leadership and loyalty can become a noble's champion. Such a knight commands the noble's entire army with permission and can conscript commoners.
- Knight Banneret: These knights either break from a noble sponsor or are landowning nobles themselves. They own land, command at least a company (300 troops), and answer only to Knight Commanders or their order.
- Knight Commander: The highest-ranking members of a knighthood. They own land, command personal armies, and answer directly to Dukes or Kings in times of war. They must be of noble lineage and often hold noble ranks themselves.
Descriptions of Commoner Ranks
- Elder: A title given to respected commoners, usually older, with a strong reputation and small landholdings. Used among barbarian and nomadic tribes for leaders.
- Gentleman/Gentlewoman: Reserved for prominent non-landowning businessmen, guild members, or guild leaders with influence in their cities.
- Esquire: A title for the heir of a strong business. Though they hold little power initially, their reputation is often tied to their family’s legacy.
- Yeoman: Successful tradesmen who own small parcels of land. They are respected leaders in their communities and often mentor apprentices.
